Nintendo finally takes legal action against Palworld

When Palworld was released, everyone assumed that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company were going to initiate a lawsuit against Pocketpair. However, months passed and there was no news about any movement from the owners of Pokémon. Not only this was quite surprising because it was pretty obvious that the Pals in Pokectpair's survival video game were "heavily inspired" by some creatures present in Pokémon games, but also because Nintendo has a long history of relentlessly confronting anyone that may have attempted to break its property rights.

We have seen the Japanese company taking to the court all kinds of emulators, modders, and creators for releasing or attempting to release content that was remotely related to Nintendo's games and characters. However, nothing was done regarding Palworld and its apparently blatant violation of Nintendo's rights, at least until now.

Nintendo strikes back!

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have finally made a movement and it's a very serious one. Both of them have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair. According to an official statement:

“On the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights. Nintendo will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights, including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual properties it has worked hard to establish over the years.”

It's worth noticing that the lawsuit focuses on patent rights and not copyright, therefore it's yet unclear what are its exact terms. Palworld gameplay is vastly different from what players can enjoy in Pokémon games. It looks like there is going to be a complex legal battle that is going to last for a while, and the results are far from certain.

As the bigger fish and an experienced contender on these matters, Nintendo shouldn't be affected by the process, but Pocketpair will have to invest valuable time and resources in this, which may affect the rumoured upcoming release of Palworld on PlayStation 5. In any case, you should keep an eye on our comparator to buy a cheap Palworld code if you have yet to discover this unique game that was defined as "Pokémon with guns" and caught the eye of millions of players.
