Steam Machine could be selling up to 15,000 units every single week
Valve has yet to reveal official sales figures for its newly released Steam Machine, but early estimates suggest the premium gaming PC may be off to a much stronger start than many expected. Given its high price tag, there was widespread skepticism ahead of launch over whether the hardware could attract enough buyers, yet its position on Steam's best-seller rankings paints a surprisingly positive picture.
As is typical for Valve, the company has remained silent on hardware sales. Even years after the Steam Deck's debut, the exact number of units sold has never been publicly disclosed. That lack of transparency has prompted community members to estimate sales using the limited information Valve does make available.
One such attempt comes from Ekianjo at Boiling Steam, who analyzed Valve's Global Top Sellers chart. Unlike traditional rankings that prioritize units sold, Steam's chart is based on total revenue generated. By comparing the Steam Machine's position against products with more predictable earnings, it's possible to estimate how much revenue the new hardware may be bringing in.
At the time of the analysis, the Steam Machine ranked second on the Global Top Sellers list, sitting between Counter-Strike 2 in first place and Palworld in third. Historical market data indicates that Counter-Strike 2 consistently generates roughly $19-20 million in weekly revenue, effectively placing an upper limit on how much the Steam Machine could have earned during the same period. Meanwhile, products occupying third place have historically brought in somewhere around $7-9 million per week.
Based on those benchmarks, Ekianjo estimates that the Steam Machine is likely generating between $10 million and $18 million in weekly revenue. Assuming the lower-priced model is selling slightly better than the higher-end configuration, that revenue range would translate to roughly 9,000 to 16,000 units sold every week.
Splitting the difference suggests average weekly sales of approximately 12,000 Steam Machines, although the figure will naturally fluctuate depending on demand. The device has since slipped to third place on Steam's Global Top Sellers chart, behind Counter-Strike 2 and Palworld, but maintaining a podium position despite its premium pricing still points to a notably successful launch - at least based on the data currently available.
