Battlefield 6 Tops Steam Charts with 500K+ Wishlists
Battlefield 6, the highly anticipated next chapter in Electronic Arts' iconic shooter franchise, is off to an impressive start. Just days after its official reveal, the game has already been added to over 500,000 Steam wishlists, signaling an exceptional level of interest, especially considering the mixed reception of Battlefield 2042.
According to multiple gaming news outlets, this figure was reached in just one weekend. Sources like Insider Gaming and MP1st note that this level of wishlist activity rivals that of major launches like Starfield and Elden Ring, both of which also saw strong early momentum on Steam. Analysts suggest this trend could indicate a renewed trust in the franchise, though tempered with caution.
That caution is evident in player communities. Many users on platforms like Reddit have made it clear that wishlisting doesn't equal an instant purchase. "I’ll only buy if the game is polished" is a common sentiment, reflecting a growing skepticism toward pre-orders and early hype.
About the game's price...
Amid the buzz, EA CEO Andrew Wilson addressed pricing expectations during the company's recent earnings call. He confirmed that there are currently no plans to adjust pricing for games like Battlefield. Wilson stated that EA already offers a wide range of pricing across its catalog and will focus on delivering long-term value rather than making sudden price increases.
"We’re not looking to make any changes on pricing at this stage, but that’s in the construct of we already offer a fairly broad pricing scheme across our various products. When you think about everything from free-to-play through to our premium products and our deluxe editions, our orientation is always to capture the full spectrum of pricing so that we can serve players in the best way possible and offer them the greatest value. We’ll continue to look at opportunities to deliver great value to our players through various pricing schemes over the course of time, but no dramatic changes planned yet."
EA’s CFO, Stuart Canfield, echoed this by emphasizing the publisher’s focus on player retention and lifetime value (LTV), rather than immediate returns per unit sold. This reinforces the company’s ongoing commitment to live service models for flagship franchises like Battlefield.
While official pricing hasn’t been confirmed, several reports suggest Battlefield 6 may retail between $69.99 and $79.99, depending on platform. Still, EA has not formally commented, and it seems unlikely they will exceed the industry-standard $70 price point for now.
With a full gameplay reveal scheduled for July 31, Battlefield 6 now faces the challenge of living up to the hype. If it delivers a strong multiplayer experience and avoids the pitfalls of its predecessor, the game could mark a major comeback for the series and reestablish trust among longtime fans.
