EA and Battlefield Studios are preparing to roll back some controversial changes to Battlefield 6’s controller aim assist — but that hasn’t stopped PC players from taking matters into their own hands.
Senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson confirmed that Battlefield Studios will be “reverting back” to the open beta aim assist settings in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter). It’s a move that many players have been requesting since Battlefield 6 launched for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 10.
Nickerson added that recoil reduction adjustments are also coming soon. While console users have often disagreed on how the current aim assist compares to the open beta version, most agree that the launch build made micro-adjustments harder and overall aiming less responsive.
“In the beta, aiming and shooting felt really satisfying, but now the aim feels completely different,” one player wrote shortly after launch.
“Aiming and aim assist felt perfectly fine on controller,” another added.
We are reverting back to OB AA settings here shortly.

The post-launch changes have proven divisive enough that some PC players are now manually editing their game files to disable crossplay altogether. Content creator @otterTweets recently shared a workaround that turns off crossplay by modifying a configuration line in the game’s local settings folder.
However, there’s a catch — players who disable crossplay are dropped into lobbies filled with bots instead of human opponents. Unless a large number of PC users follow suit, matchmaking could remain slow and inconsistent for those using the tweak.
With EA and Battlefield Studios now preparing to restore the open beta aim assist model, it may be worth waiting to see how the official adjustments affect balance between platforms. Alongside these updates, developers have also been tuning other gameplay systems such as challenge requirements and Conquest ticket sizes.
Battlefield 6 continues to evolve rapidly with each patch, and player feedback remains a major driving force behind its updates. If you’re planning to jump in or return to the battlefield, make sure to use our comparator to find the best deals for Battlefield 6.
