Subnautica 2 features a bigger map and many novelties

Unknown Worlds Entertainment has officially revealed a host of exciting details about Subnautica 2 in their latest developer video, "Waterside Q&A," offering fans a glimpse into the ambitious future of the underwater survival series.

Among the most significant announcements is confirmation that Subnautica 2 will feature a much larger and deeper world than its predecessor. The development team is aiming to create a vastly expanded oceanic environment, packed with diverse biomes and a greater sense of verticality. This larger map is designed to reward exploration with new discoveries and environmental storytelling on a scale never before seen in the franchise.

Another major change coming to the sequel is the introduction of cooperative multiplayer. For the first time, players will be able to dive into the depths with up to three friends in a shared world. This new co-op mode will exist alongside a traditional single-player experience, ensuring that fans who prefer a solitary journey can still enjoy the game as they always have.

Unknown Worlds is also experimenting with new gameplay mechanics. The developers have mentioned the addition of underwater currents that could carry players across the map, potentially opening up new forms of traversal and discovery.

Graphically, Subnautica 2 is making a leap forward by switching to Unreal Engine 5. This transition is expected to bring major improvements in lighting, environment detail, and overall immersion, helping the alien world feel even more vibrant and alive.

As for release plans, Subnautica 2 is targeting an Early Access launch in 2025. It will initially be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S, with more platforms possibly to follow.
