This week's game Launches on PC, PS5, Xbox: May 2026 (Week 20)

This Week's Video Game Releases - May 2026 (Week 20)
Release date

The second week of May 2026 is bringing a packed lineup of video game launches, with survival adventures, psychological horror, and experimental indie projects leading the conversation. While there may not be a single blockbuster overshadowing the market, this week’s release calendar offers a wide variety of experiences across PC and consoles.

May 11 - 17 releases

The week begins with Outbound on May 11. The relaxing open-world exploration title focuses on life inside a customizable camper van in a hopeful, eco-friendly future. Players gather resources, upgrade their mobile home, and explore scenic environments either solo or cooperatively. Early previews have highlighted its calm pace and emphasis on creativity rather than combat.

May 12 is the busiest day of the week, with several notable launches arriving simultaneously. Among them is Clockwork Ambrosia, an indie project generating attention for its stylized world design and narrative focus. Also arriving is Call of the Elder Gods, a Lovecraft-inspired horror adventure that blends mystery, exploration, and supernatural storytelling. Both titles are expected to attract fans of atmospheric indie gaming.

The biggest release on May 12 is likely Directive 8020, the latest entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology from Supermassive Games. Set aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia, the cinematic sci-fi horror game places players against a shapeshifting alien threat on the distant planet Tau Ceti f. The game features the studio's trademark branching narrative system, where player decisions can dramatically alter the story and determine which characters survive. Actress Lashana Lynch stars as astronaut Brianna Young, one of the game's central protagonists.

On May 13, strategy fans will get Dark Dominion, another science-fiction themed release entering a crowded but highly anticipated week for genre enthusiasts. Although smaller in scale compared to some of the week's other releases, the game is expected to appeal to players looking for tactical gameplay and dark futuristic settings.

The week concludes with one of 2026’s most anticipated launches: Subnautica 2, entering Early Access on May 14. Developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the underwater survival sequel introduces four-player cooperative gameplay for the first time in the series. Set on a new alien ocean planet, the game expands on the original formula with larger environments, new creatures, advanced base building, and expanded exploration mechanics.

Interest surrounding Subnautica 2 has remained extremely high despite a turbulent development period that included delays and legal disputes involving publisher Krafton. Even so, the game has remained one of the most wish-listed titles on Steam ahead of launch.

This week’s lineup reflects a growing trend in modern gaming: cooperative survival experiences, persistent worlds, and Early Access launches designed to evolve alongside player communities. From the peaceful road-trip atmosphere of Outbound to the deep-sea tension of Subnautica 2 and the cinematic horror of Directive 8020, this week offers a broad selection.
