Unknown Worlds admits Subnautica 2 needs some creature fixes
Subnautica 2 is still in Early Access, and Unknown Worlds has now put out an official Letter to the Community after players started sharing a lot of feedback about the game’s current state. The post is basically the team saying: yes, they are reading the reviews, yes, they know some things are not landing right, and yes, changes are coming.
The biggest point in the letter is communication. The team admits that some players felt ignored or dismissed, which is not what Early Access should feel like. Subnautica 2 is meant to grow with the community watching closely, so this letter feels like a reset button. Not a huge content reveal, not a flashy roadmap drop, but a pretty direct message about where the team thinks the game needs work right now.
The first big area is creature balance. Some predator encounters are not giving players that classic Subnautica tension in the right way. Instead of feeling scary, mysterious, or dangerous in a fun way, some moments are coming off as annoying or unfair. The team says the problem is not just the creatures themselves, but also how players deal with them.
Surviving the deep without turning the game into a shooter
That brings us to the second area: defense and survival tools. Unknown Worlds says things like flare effectiveness, Survival Tool usefulness, aggro range, creature aggression timing, and interactions with vehicles and bases are all being looked at. Basically, players need clearer ways to understand what is happening and better options when something angry decides to swim straight at them.
The third major topic is combat. Players have been asking for more direct ways to handle hostile creatures, including killing them. The team understands why that request is happening, especially when the current tools do not always feel good enough. Still, Subnautica 2 is not trying to become a weapon-heavy survival game. The devs want to keep that feeling of being small, exposed, and deep in an alien ocean where survival is more about reading the world than blasting through it.
That direction makes sense for Subnautica, but it only works if the encounters feel fair. The letter shows that Unknown Worlds knows this, and now the real test is how fast and how well those patches improve the game.
