Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date announced
During Sony's State of Play, a second trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was revealed, showcasing much more of the game that Cloud and his crew will explore. At the end of the trailer, the release date was announced. Previously scheduled for winter, fans of the crystal franchise will now be able to enjoy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on February 29, 2024.
The trailer showcased a significant portion of the game's second part. After leaving Midgard, the group will explore a world that isn't necessarily open but will have a high degree of freedom. Additionally, it introduced three new party members: Red XIII - not controllable in the first game - Cait Sith, and Vincent. Yuffie was already introduced in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade but wasn't playable in the main game.
The exploration segment shows Cloud riding and flying on chocobos and using the buggy to traverse the sands near Corel. Later, the group is seen ascending to the Gold Saucer, a kind of amusement park with numerous mini-games and a brand-new dance performance with the owner of the Honey Bee Inn.
The second part will cover up to the midpoint of the original game
Zack appears to add more confusion to longtime fans, who question how and why the man is alive. In Cloud's flashback, it's noticeable from the UI that Sephiroth will be a playable character, albeit temporarily. Regarding gameplay, it was confirmed that the party members will have a kind of tag team combo, combining their unique abilities to create new ones.
The preview reinforced the game's narrative, which seems to stay true to the classic - except for the part about Zack. The video shows Rufus, Weapons, and summons in breathtaking high-quality graphics. Square Enix stated that they will focus on more AAA releases after Final Fantasy XVI and the Final Fantasy franchise is expected to be at the center of the spotlight.
Dragon Quest is another major series from the publisher, preparing to release Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai on September 28, 2023, and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on December 1, 2023. Dragon Quest XII got a teaser but there has been radio silence since then.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on February 29, 2024, and a twin pack containing both remake games is available.
