Dead Space remake will be bloodier than the original
When the remake of Dead Space was announced one month ago, all of us wondered what kind of approach the developers would take to the new game. In the original Dead Space, Visceral Games managed to combine science fiction and horror to create an intense experience that takes players to the planet Aegis VII in the year 2508. The planet is home to a virus organism that transforms corpses into bloodthirsty monsters known as Necromorphs. You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer that travels to the planet looking for his girlfriend, who was part of an illegal mining operation on the planet. Political intrigue, deadly undead aliens, and a good dose of puzzles and gory combat complete a mix that has become a cult classic of the genre.
Dead Space remake teaser was enough to catch the attention of all the fans of the series, but yesterday's livestream was our first chance of watching some footage of the game. The new Dead Space looks great even in the early stages of development, and the video comes to confirm that one of the features that made the original dead space a hit will be present in the remake with a renewed focus. You will be able to dismember Necromorphs in the Dead Space remake too. A new "body destruction" system will allow players to chop limbs in plenty of new ways, adding realism to the game. Creative director Roman Campos-Oriola explains it very well in a statement:
"The body destruction technology that we're developing, that is allowing us to really remove the flesh off of the bones of the enemy, and to give you a good sense not only of gore ... but also of how much damage am I doing to the opponent. Is my weapon actually useful against this one? How close is it to dying? That's something that to me is really interesting."
It will be quite interesting to see if the new Dead Space will try to achieve the same level of realism in other areas of the gameplay. Still, this feature alone will probably make the game a favorite of the fans, which probably would have loved to see a feature like this implemented in Dead Space 3. Obviously, technology limits what you can do in video games, and the release of the next-gen consoles makes features like this a new possibility to explore.
The Dead Space remake still has a long way before its launch, and the developers seem to want to share a lot of information about it even in the early stages. It definitely looks quite promising already.
