Blizzard sheds some light on Diablo 4's post-launch content
Most Diablo fans will be quite busy this weekend giving Diablo 4 a new try during its second open beta. You can choose to level up a different class or try new ability builds for your favorite one if you already took part in the previous event. But if you are eagerly awaiting the upcoming release of Blizzard's ARPG next month, you may be interested in knowing more details about the developer's plans for the game beyond its launch. Diablo 4 is structured in a way that is significantly different from its predecessors, and the monetization system will include an in-game shop, battle passes, and seasons.
Seasonal content to boot
Those players that fought against evil forces in Diablo 3 are already used to a seasonal system where you have to make a new character every season to unlock certain advantages and rewards, but the seasonal content in Diablo 4 will also include new questlines separate from the main storyline, new gameplay features, and more. All of these changes will be removed every three months with the arrival of a new season. Although you can still continue playing a character from a season that has ended, it's in your best interest to start with another one for the ongoing season.
Blizzard will also release a seasonal Battle Pass that will provide additional rewards as you complete its tiers. These will come in the form of cosmetic items, and a new currency that you can use to buy limited-time boosts to your earnings in Diablo 4. Of course, there will be a Premium Battle Pass that you can buy to access even more rewards. You shouldn't be concerned about the in-game shop making Diablo 4 a pay-to-win game as it will only sell cosmetic items.
Diablo 4 is shaping to follow a live service model that will keep players in the game for quite a long time. The first season of the game will kick off in July, so you will have a month to level up your first character and explore Sanctuary as you please before you have to think about seasonal content.
