ARC Raiders’ Headwinds Update Introduces Solo vs. Squad Mode
ARC Raiders, the fast-paced third-person shooter from Embark Studios, its launching its latest content update today. Under the name Headwinds, the patch brings a variety of new features designed to challenge veteran players and expand the game's strategic depth. From daring solo matchups to environmental changes that reshape the battlefield, Headwinds is adding both intensity and variety to the extraction shooter experience.
A superior challenge
One of the most notable additions in the content update is the Solo vs. Squads matchmaking option. Players who have reached level 40 can now opt to enter matches alone against full squads. This high-risk, high-reward mode is aimed at experienced Raiders seeking an intense challenge. To balance the difficulty, solo participants earn bonus experience regardless of the outcome, incentivizing players to test their skills against multiple opponents. This update marks a significant change from previous matchmaking systems, which generally paired solo players with smaller groups or other solo participants.
The update also introduces a new rotating map condition for the Buried City map, called Bird City. Flocks of birds now populate rooftops and other elevated areas, placing valuable loot in hard-to-reach locations. This environmental tweak encourages vertical play and forces players to make strategic decisions: risk exposure while climbing for rare materials, or play it safe and potentially miss out on high-value rewards. By altering movement and engagement patterns, Bird City adds an unpredictable element to each match.
Headwinds is also expanding long-term progression through the ARC Trophy Display. This player project allows Raiders to collect components from defeated ARC enemies and display them in their personal trophy case. Completing this system unlocks unique rewards, including cosmetics and functional items, giving players an additional reason to engage with the game’s challenges beyond individual raids.
Quality-of-life improvements are also being added. Features like Open Parties and improved Squad Invites make it easier to form groups and join matches seamlessly. Additionally, new quests and cosmetic sets, including the Sandwalker outfits, give players more ways to personalize their characters and approach missions creatively.
Headwinds is the first update in the Escalation roadmap, a series of monthly content drops planned through April 2026. Future updates will introduce new map conditions, enemy types, and entirely new battlegrounds, promising to keep the game fresh and competitive for both solo and squad-focused players.
With Headwinds, ARC Raiders continues to expand its tactical and strategic offerings, giving seasoned players exciting new challenges while trying to leave behind the problems caused by the creaters.
