Why 007 First Light has Bond fans so excited

007 First Light might be the best Bond game since GoldenEye

It has been a very long time since a James Bond game truly felt like a big event, but 007 First Light is starting to look like the closest thing we’ve had to another GoldenEye moment. Ever since the first gameplay details and previews dropped, players have been talking about the same thing: this does not feel like a cheap movie tie-in or a scripted shooter with a Bond skin on top. It feels like a real modern Bond experience built with care.

What makes it even more interesting is how much freedom the game seems to give players. IO Interactive is adding RPG-style systems, dialogue choices, gadget upgrades, different infiltration paths, and larger sandbox-style mission areas that let you approach situations your own way. Some players will sneak through a mission quietly using disguises and hacking tools, while others will go louder with shootouts, car chases, and hand-to-hand combat. That flexibility is exactly why so many people are comparing it to Hitman, but with far more cinematic action behind it.

The story focuses on a younger and less experienced James Bond before he becomes the legendary 007 everyone knows. Instead of the polished agent from the films, this Bond still has something to prove. The game takes players across several locations including Iceland, Malta, and London, with missions involving MI6 training, high-end parties, espionage operations, and dangerous international targets. From what has been shown so far, the locations look detailed and full of life, with a strong focus on exploration and replayability rather than simply moving from one linear mission to another.

A perfect mix between Hitman and Uncharted

What really stands out though is the overall vibe of the game. Some moments look straight out of Uncharted with big cinematic sequences, rooftop chases, collapsing environments, and flashy action scenes, while other parts slow things down and let you play more strategically like Hitman. That combination could end up being exactly what Bond games needed all along.

Right now, 007 First Light looks like one of the most promising action games on the horizon, especially for players who miss the days when spy games actually felt special.
