Agent 64: Spies Never Die launches this August

Agent 64 offers an old-school alternative to 007 First Light

Agent 64: Spies Never Die finally has a launch date, and retro FPS fans should mark August 11, 2026, on their calendars. Developer and publisher Replicant D6 will release the spy-themed shooter for PC through Steam, bringing its long-awaited mixture of secret missions, chunky visuals and split-screen chaos to players after several years in development.

A retro spy mission packed with danger

Agent 64: Spies Never Die is an objective-based first-person shooter inspired by the legendary console shooters of the Nintendo 64 era. Players take control of secret agent John Walter, who must stop the villainous Dominic Pulp before his latest plan causes a global disaster. Expect snowy military bases, museums, skyscrapers, nightclubs and underground catacombs packed with guards who clearly did not receive enough training for this assignment.

The full campaign features 14 missions combining gunfights with classic espionage objectives. Players may need to steal documents, hack computers, rescue hostages or explore restricted sections of each level. There are three difficulty settings—Agent, Special Agent and 64 Agent—but higher difficulties do not simply make enemies stronger. They also introduce extra objectives and open new areas, encouraging players to replay missions and master every corner of the map.

While IO Interactive’s 007 First Light aims to deliver a cinematic, modern interpretation of the world’s most famous secret agent, Agent 64 takes a much more old-school approach. Instead of focusing on realistic visuals and blockbuster storytelling, Replicant D6 embraces low-poly environments, compact mission design and the replayable structure of classic shooters. Both games celebrate spy fantasy, but Agent 64 looks like the choice for players who prefer fast objectives, retro gunplay and ridiculous multiplayer moments.

Competitive multiplayer is also included, supporting four players locally and up to eight players online. Modes include Deathmatch, Briefcase and Zone control, while bots can be added for even more chaotic battles. The game also contains Contracts, unlockable challenges and more than 70 modifiers and cheats, including big-head characters, unlimited firing and slow-moving bullets.

A free demo featuring the opening two missions is currently available on Steam, offering players a chance to test the retro aiming, objective system and delightfully blocky art style before launch.

Agent 64: Spies Never Die looks ready to deliver the kind of spy adventure that many GoldenEye fans have been waiting years to play.
