Developer and publisher poncle has officially unveiled Legacy of the Bloodmoon, a brand-new expansion for the hit roguelike phenomenon Vampire Survivors. Revealed during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, the DLC is scheduled to launch this summer across all platforms where Vampire Survivors is available.

A plethora of new characters

According to poncle, Legacy of the Bloodmoon began life as a small addition to the fan-favorite Legacy of the Moonspell expansion. However, as development progressed, the project expanded far beyond its original scope, ultimately becoming a full standalone DLC. Creator Luca Galante described the expansion as another example of a modest idea growing into something much larger than initially planned.

The new expansion promises a substantial amount of content for players to discover, including:

12 new characters
16+ new weapons and evolutions
1 new XL stage
8 new music tracks
Additional secrets and surprises

Set against a dark new storyline, Legacy of the Bloodmoon introduces players to the legend of Saint Baal'Thasar and the mysterious Order of the Red Moon, a cult founded after a prophetic vision of a paradise illuminated by a crimson moon. According to the in-game myth, Baal'Thasar vanished during a pilgrimage in search of this promised land, never to return.

The expansion marks a return to original Vampire Survivors lore following several high-profile crossover releases and the arrival of a new take on the franchise, Vampire Crawlers, which offers a different approach to gameplay. Early community reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with many fans expressing excitement for a new chapter connected to the world established in Legacy of the Moonspell.

Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Bloodmoon is scheduled to arrive this summer on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Poncle unveils Legacy of the Bloodmoon, yet another expansion for Vampire Survivors, which will add to the already substantial amount of content with a number of new features, starting with The Manor of the Red Moon, a new extra large stage. But there are also as many as 12 extra characters: the trailer introduces us to Malice Bloodmoon, Calogero Bloodmoon, Baal'Thasar, Ashtart and Sargon. Then we find more than 16 among weapons and evolutions, 8 music tracks, an adventure and more. The date is set for summer 2026.

What I like the most is that they are also going to improve Moonspell along with the release of this expansion. It seems to me a very elegant way to give more value to the previous content and to keep the whole collection up to date for new players.

I don't know the base game at all, so it's hard to judge the content of this expansion in detail. On the other hand, seeing how much it seems to add (new characters, weapons and a new zone), it looks pretty generous for a DLC advertised as low-cost.

One of the things I enjoy most in Vampire Survivors is discovering hidden secrets and rare unlocks, so the bigger the map, the better. I have a feeling there will be lots and lots of hidden surprises.

After several special contents and collaborations, I was looking forward to see an expansion directly connected to the original universe of the game and it seems that Legacy of the Bloodmoon is going in that direction.
