What is next for The Blood of Dawnwalker after its strong Steam launch

The Blood of Dawnwalker has had the kind of start most new studios can only dream about. Rebel Wolves' vampire RPG launched on September 3, 2026, for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it kept gaining players for days afterward.

Most big games hit their highest Steam numbers on day one. Dawnwalker did the opposite. It passed 64,000 concurrent players within its first day, then kept climbing all weekend. On September 6, it reached an all-time peak of more than 78,000 concurrent players, according to SteamDB.

Sales moved just as fast. On September 5, Rebel Wolves announced that the game had sold more than one million copies across all platforms.

Player opinion improved too. Early Steam reviews sat at around 79% positive, with PC performance as the main complaint. A few hotfixes later, the game holds a "Very Positive" rating of roughly 87% from more than 27,000 reviews.

Daily numbers have calmed down since that first weekend, which is normal for a single-player RPG that people finish and put down. The 24-hour peak is now around 7,000 players on Steam.

The big October patch

The first major patch is due in early October, though there is no exact date yet. Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz told Eurogamer what to expect:

• A new, easier Story difficulty for players who mostly want the narrative, bringing the total to five difficulty levels
• Changes to the automatic target switch after you stun an enemy, which many players disliked
• Smoother escapes when you want to run from a fight
• More work on PC performance

Rebel Wolves has talked about smaller free DLCs, but there is no roadmap yet and no expansion has been announced. We hope the studio goes further. A world this good deserves full story expansions, new quests and more reasons to return to Vale Sangora. The game is billed as the first chapter of a new saga, so there is clearly more to tell.
