This week's game launches on PC, PS5, Xbox: September 2026 (Week 36)

September is barely through the door and it's already bringing a suitcase full of new games with it. The first week of the month is surprisingly busy, offering everything from supernatural samurai and vampire-infested medieval Europe to basketball, colorful platforming and a trip into the depths of space. Whether you're looking for your next big RPG, something to play with a friend, or simply an excuse to ignore your backlog for another week, there are plenty of new releases worth watching. Here are seven games arriving between August 31 and September 6.

August 31 - September 6 releases

First up is Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, the sequel to Digital Sun's charming action RPG that asks an important question: what if your dungeon-crawling hero also had to run a shop? The answer is, unsurprisingly, "very busy." Players venture into dangerous dungeons to collect valuable loot before returning home to sell their findings, improve their equipment and expand their business. The deeper you go, the better the treasures and the greater the chance of losing everything.

The sequel expands on the original formula with new locations, enemies, equipment and plenty of opportunities to turn questionable dungeon junk into cold, hard cash. Moonlighter 2 is already available in Early Access via Steam, but its finalv ersion will launch September 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, as well as PC.

On the same day, things get considerably darker with The Blood of Dawnwalker, the ambitious action RPG from Rebel Wolves. Set in a grim medieval world where vampires have decided that humanity's problems are now their problems, the game puts players in the boots of Coen, a young man caught between his human nature and supernatural powers. Coen becomes a Dawnwalker, giving him access to vampiric abilities that can be used alongside traditional weapons. The result is a combat system that encourages players to experiment with both sides of his identity.

But this isn't simply a medieval monster-slaying simulator. The story revolves around family and survival, and players' choices drive it forward and are capable of influencing how Coen's journey unfolds. The Blood of Dawnwalker arrives on September 2 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, making it one of the week's biggest launches.

If you prefer basketball rather than a sword, NBA 2K27 has you covered. The latest entry in 2K's long-running basketball franchise hits the court on September 3, bringing its familiar mixture of realistic basketball action, career progression and competitive modes. Create your own superstar, dominate the league or simply spend an alarming amount of time perfecting your jump shot; there's plenty of virtual hardwood waiting.

As usual, NBA 2K27 is aiming to provide the definitive digital basketball experience for the new season, making this an obvious choice for fans of the sport.

From towering athletes to a very furry creature with an absurdly useful tail, Marsupilami 2 - Salsa Palombia provides a rather different kind of adventure. The Marsupilamis are back, and this time Palombia has a serious musical problem. A mysterious melody is causing animals to dance uncontrollably, while the Mummy Queen has returned from the Land of the Dead with plans that are presumably not going to improve the local tourism industry.

Players will jump, swing and bounce their way through colorful environments while helping the Marsupilamis restore order. The game also supports two-player local multiplayer, making it an appealing choice for anyone looking for a lighter adventure to enjoy with a friend.

After all that sword-swinging and basketball, perhaps the planet could use a little help. That's where BioEden comes in. This management game puts players in charge of restoring a damaged world. Instead of conquering territories or defeating enormous monsters, your job is to rebuild ecosystems, create sustainable structures and bring life back to a planet that has seen better days. You'll gradually restore nature and reintroduce extinct animals while attempting to create an environment where everything can coexist.

In other words, BioEden is the game for anyone who has ever looked at a devastated virtual landscape and thought, "I could fix that." It arrives on September 3 for PC and Nintendo Switch 2, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions coming later.

Space is vast, mysterious and, apparently, not particularly good for the structural integrity of your space station. Orbitals is a co-op adventure built around two players working together as explorers Maki and Omura. Their mission becomes considerably more complicated when their space station gets trapped inside a mysterious cosmic storm.

The game requires players to coordinate their actions to progress, rather than simply running around shooting everything that moves. It features both local split-screen and online multiplayer, while Nintendo Switch 2 players can also take advantage of GameShare.

With its colorful visuals and retro-anime-inspired aesthetic, Orbitals looks like a particularly interesting option for anyone searching for a co-op adventure that doesn't involve saving the world entirely on their own.

And then there is the samurai. Capcom's Onimusha: Way of the Sword arrives on September 4, bringing the classic franchise back from the dead  appropriately enough, considering the supernatural horrors that inhabit its world.

Set in Kyoto during the early Edo period, the game follows a warrior equipped with the mysterious Oni Gauntlet as he battles the Genma. Expect plenty of swordplay, gruesome finishing moves, supernatural abilities and enemies that definitely aren't interested in peaceful conflict resolution.

The return of Onimusha is particularly notable because the franchise has been away from the spotlight for more than two decades. Capcom is bringing it back with a modern action system while retaining the dark samurai atmosphere that made the original games memorable. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 4 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.

A little something for everyone
