Space Marine 2 will have official modding tools

There are very few things players can complain about in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, at least in the base game. It offers an outstanding gameplay experience whether you prefer to immerse in its epic campaign solo, play alongside friends in co-op mode, or even dive into thrilling PvP battles. If it does not suffice to satisfy you, it's even possible to modify it via the use of mods. However, this last thing can potentially cause compatibility problems, and developer Saber Interactive has decided to address such a problem.

No more non-official mods

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 game director Dmitriy Grigorenko has revealed in a statement that the studio is suspending the use of mods on public online sessions. The reason behind such a prohibition is the significant amount of server stability issues they are causing.

"Our data shows that a non-negligible amount of recent server stability issues are related to mods, and that instability impacts even those users who don’t have mods installed. We have also received user reports that their save files were corrupted after playing alongside players with mods.

This is why, starting with our next big update in December, mods will be prohibited from public online sessions. That means that you will no longer be able to enter a public game if you have mods installed.

However, we know that mods are a source of fun and creativity, and they will still be allowed in private Operations lobbies. We will continue to provide all necessary server infrastructure so you can play online with your friends with mods. Once we add custom Eternal War lobbies, mods will work for them as well."

Free content and significant changes are coming to Space Marine 2, especially for those who use mods to enhance their gameplay experience and play as Primarchs, for example. However, this will be only temporary. The future release of official modding tools will contribute to helping modders continue creating additional content for the game. Saber Interactive is open to having mods in the game, just in a way that they don't hinder any player's experience.
