Samurai Shodown will launch in June
NEWS Mar 25, 2019, 4:51 PM

A few weeks ago SNK announced the return of one of its most famous fighting franchises. The company that created some of the best arcade classic titles for Neo Geo, including Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters is bringing back Samurai Shodown; a title focused on recreating thrilling duels where both participants wield weapons of different types.

Samurai Shodown franchise, also known as Samurai Spirits in Japan, is returning ten years after its last installment for the celebration of SNK's 40th Anniversary. The new game will make use of Epic´s Unreal Engine 4 to deliver all the addictive action that made it one of the most exciting fighting titles back when it was originally released. The game will include sixteen different fighters, and we will see the return of some fan-favorites like Haohmaru, Hanzo, Jubei, Charlotte, and Galford among others, but there will also be three brand new characters between the ones available at launch. Later on, we will see the addition of more fighters in the form of DLCs.

Other than the usual battle modes like Story or Online Battle, Samurai Shodown will include a "Dojo" online mode where you will fight against Ghosts. Those Ghosts are created by the AI in the game analyzing the gameplay and data of the players during their offline matches. Not only you can fight against your own Ghost to improve your gameplay, but you will also be able to download other players' ghosts to fight against them. Samurai Shodown will include revised fighting mechanics. The game will be present at PAX East but if you won´t be attending and you can´t wait to see the gameplay, feel free to take a look at the 44-minutes gameplay video from Gematsu where you can get a preview of the matches and game modes.

Samurai Shodown will launch in June on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will be released on Nintendo Switch and PC later this year, probably during the third quarter of 2019 but no launch date has been confirmed so far.
