Marvel’s Spider-man 2 finally has a release date

This year’s Summer Game Fest has just given Spidey fans a gift—apart from teaser images and information, Insomniac finally released a launch date for Spider-Man 2: October 20, 2023. Check out the teaser right here, care of IGN:

In a statement, Insomniac developers said:

“Built from the ground up for PlayStation 5 console, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will unlock the power of the console with better visuals, faster web swinging (and web wings!), 3D Audio, and near-instant character switching. We speak for all our collaborators and friends at PlayStation and Marvel Games, when we say that we cannot wait for you to get your hands on this incredible single-player open-world experience.” 

Insomniac has stated that players can freely switch between the two main characters during the open-world play mode. During story mode, the switching is pre-determined.

No ordinary Venom

Both Spider-men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, will be teaming up against a host of new villains, including Venom and Kraven the Hunter.

Venom raised more than a few eyebrows when creative director Brian Intihar announced that the symbiote’s host will be neither Eddie Brock nor Peter Parker. To be sure, Eddie was the most well-known Venom from Spider-man comics and other media. So if not Eddie, who is Venom’s other half? 

Based on what we knew from the previous Spider-Man game, the final host could be either one of the two Osbornes: Harry, who was infected by the symbiote before it leaped to Peter, or Harry’s father, billionaire industrialist Norman Osborne. Of course, given Insomniac’s readiness to play with Spider-Man lore, there is the possibility that an entirely different character could take the Venom mantle. 

We'll have to wait and see when Spider-Man 2 comes out this October 20.
