Marvel's Avengers is not selling XP boosts anymore
When Crystal Dynamics announced that it would be possible to acquire XP Boosters for real cash, it didn't sit well with many Marvel's Avengers players. Microtransactions have always been a delicate matter in video games, especially when you can buy things that give you any type of advantage over other players. It does not matter if it's items that directly make your character more powerful, which obviously have an impact in a multiplayer environment or items that grant you additional experience, like in this case. Both tend to get a game branded as pay-to-win, which is seen as negative in most cases, especially by players who already invested their time and effort in leveling up or getting powerful items.
On the other hand, these items turn out to be quite profitable for the developer as they tend to be among the most popular in the shop for obvious reasons. Hero's Catalysts and Fragment Extractors increase the amount of experience and currency you gain while playing Marvel's Avengers and, therefore, significantly impact how fast your character becomes more powerful.
The significant number of complaints about Hero's Catalysts and Fragment Extractors being purchasable with real money in Marvel's Avengers has been enough to force Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix to reconsider their change of policy about microtransactions, at least when it comes to those two specific items, which obviously give an advantage in the game to players who buy them. These items will still be in the game but will only be attainable by normal means, not from the cash shop. The announcement was made via a tweet from Marvel's Avengers official Twitter account.
We have decided that by the end of today we will remove Hero’s Catalysts and Fragment Extractors for purchase. pic.twitter.com/8am9nSstP2

The change should be enough to make all upset players happy again, and Marvel's Avengers will continue to be one of the favorite games of Marvel's fans. It has some additional competition now due to the recent release of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. That could be another reason for this sudden change after barely a month that these items were added to the cash shop.
