Marathon Launch Is Minutes Away: What to Expect
With less than an hour remaining before servers go live, anticipation is building for the official launch of Marathon, the long-awaited sci-fi shooter from Bungie. The game arrives as a competitive multiplayer extraction shooter designed to evolve over time through seasonal updates and live-service content.
Are you prepared?
The launch will occur simultaneously worldwide, allowing players across all regions to jump into the game at the same moment. This synchronized release ensures a unified start for the community and coincides with the beginning of the first in-game season. Players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S will be able to play together thanks to full cross-play and cross-save support, making it easier for squads to form regardless of platform.
Set on the mysterious colony world of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon places players in the role of cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners. These augmented operatives are sent into dangerous zones to recover valuable resources and uncover the secrets left behind after the colony's sudden disappearance. Each match revolves around entering hostile territory, gathering gear and valuable items, and escaping before rival players or environmental threats take you down. Success means keeping your hard-earned loot, while failure can cost everything you collected during the run.
The game launches with multiple maps and a selection of playable Runners, each with unique abilities that encourage different strategies and playstyles. Some players may focus on stealth and reconnaissance, while others might rely on aggressive tactics to control key areas of the map. The PvPvE structure ensures that every match is unpredictable, blending encounters with AI enemies and real player squads competing for the same rewards.
Today's release also kicks off the game's first seasonal chapter, which will gradually expand the experience with new weapons, locations, and gameplay systems. Bungie plans to introduce additional modes, events, and progression paths as the season unfolds, while later seasons will continue to reshape the game's evolving world.
One feature already generating discussion among players is the game's seasonal reset system. At the end of each season, progression tied to gear and in-game economy will be wiped, giving the entire community a fresh start. Bungie believes this approach will keep competition balanced and encourage experimentation with new strategies each season, though some players are waiting to see how the system feels once the game is live.
The launch follows months of testing and feedback from community play sessions, including a large-scale server test designed to stress the game's infrastructure and gather player impressions. That feedback helped shape balancing adjustments and performance improvements leading up to release.
Marathon is the studio's first major new franchise in years and a daring step into the increasingly competitive extraction shooter genre, which has been recently impacted by the arrival of ARC Raiders and some others. Within the next hour, players around the world will finally be able to step onto Tau Ceti IV. Whether you decide to play the game today or later, our comparator always allows you to find your Marathon cd-keys at the lowest price.
