Step Into Kingdom of Night: A Dark 80s Action-RPG Adventure
Picture this: It's 1987. The neon is glowing, the synthwave is pumping, and the biggest thing on your mind is whether you can make it to the arcade before curfew. But in the small desert town of Miami, Arizona, the night is about to take a hard turn into a hellish nightmare.
Deeper Dives and Darker Nights: The Five Classes of Kingdom of Night.
If you've been craving an action RPG that delivers deep dungeon-crawling satisfaction with a heavy dose of 80s nostalgia (Hotline Miami) and cosmic horror (Bloodborne), then get ready. The wait is over. Kingdom of Night—the isometric ARPG from Friends of Safety and DANGEN Entertainment—has officially launched on PC, and it’s dragging the demons of hell right into your suburban neighborhood.
- The Vibe: A unique blend of cosmic horror, coming-of-age drama, and pixelated action-RPG mayhem.
- The Launch: It's officially out now, released on December 2, 2025, for PC (via Steam, GOG, and others), with console versions planned
Kingdom of Night's main story is set during a single, apocalyptic night in 1987 in Miami, Arizona. You play as John, a teenager whose quiet life is shattered when a satanic cult unleashes the powerful demon Baphomet, turning the town into a cosmic horror hellscape. Your initial goal is to rescue your kidnapped neighbor, but this quickly expands into a quest to save the entire town. To succeed, you must explore the open, corrupted world, defeat Baphomet's Demon Generals in any order you choose, and finally infiltrate his fortress, Leviathan, for the final confrontation, all while experiencing a torrent of emotional and often terrifying side stories from the town's surviving (and corrupted) inhabitants.
The core gameplay of Kingdom of Night features real-time combat that utilizes a Soulslike-lite system with precise dodging, parries, and stamina management. Players select one of five classes (Barbarian, Knight, Rogue, Necromancer, or Sorcerer), which dictates their base playstyle, from raw melee power to area-of-effect magic. Character progression is highly customizable, as each class offers three distinct, interchangeable skill branches with 10 talents each, supported by three core attributes (Guts, Wisdom, and Strength) that can be redistributed freely.
The adventure takes place across the entire town of Miami, AZ, which functions as a large, interconnected open map allowing players to tackle main quests (like defeating the Demon Generals) and numerous side stories in any order. For a communal experience, the game also supports local co-op for 2 players across the full campaign.
Overall, Kingdom of Night is a highly successful and unique action RPG that perfectly blends 80s nostalgia with cosmic horror. Its core strength lies in its satisfying, skill-based real-time combat, flexible progression across five distinct classes with deep skill trees, and a massive, open-world design. Offering strong replayability and a fantastic co-op option, the game delivers a stylish, challenging, and memorable dark fantasy experience that is essential for fans of classic isometric ARPGs.
