Discover What’s New in Resident Evil Requiem by Capcom
Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil Requiem, and now it offers the fans their first in-depth look at the upcoming entry in the legendary survival horror franchise. Unveiled during the June 26 Capcom Spotlight livestream, a new video showcase introduced a surprising new feature: players will be able to switch freely between first-person and third-person perspectives, which is something never before available in a mainline Resident Evil title. Offering the first extended look at gameplay, character details, and dual-perspective mechanics, the trailer is a chilling invitation into a world that feels both terrifying and transformative.
Meet Grace Ashcroft: not tour average RE hero
The game's protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, is a stark departure from the combat-ready heroes fans are used to. Instead of a soldier or special agent, Grace is a young FBI technical analyst, completely out of her element. Grace finds herself thrust into a nightmare far beyond her control. What makes her stand out is not only her emotional fragility but her personal connection to the Resident Evil legacy; she's the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, the journalist from Resident Evil Outbreak. The game follows her investigation into her mother's tragic past and takes players to eerie, familiar locations like the long-destroyed Raccoon City and the mysterious Wrenwood Hotel.
Director Koshi Nakanishi, known for helming Resident Evil 7, emphasized that Resident Evil Requiem is as much about psychological transformation as it is survival. Grace's vulnerability and eventual emotional growth ground the horror in a more human experience, focusing on fear as a driving force rather than firepower.
Capcom’s use of its upgraded RE Engine, now dubbed RE neXt, amplifies the realism in Resident Evil Requiem. Facial animations are strikingly lifelike, environments drip with atmosphere, and lighting effects make the game's darker areas feel genuinely oppressive. The visuals contribute to the overall sense of fear and helplessness, reinforcing the game's survival horror roots. The spotlight video also confirms a groundbreaking design choice: players can switch seamlessly between first-person and third-person perspectives. This dual-camera system is more than a gimmick; it's an integral part of how the game delivers its horror. First-person mode offers immersive, claustrophobic tension perfect for exploration and jump scares, while third-person provides situational awareness better suited for combat and navigation. Capcom has polished both perspectives to match the quality of its modern remakes and VR titles, ensuring no mode feels like an afterthought.
Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, with a playable demo expected to premiere at Gamescom in August 2025. As the franchise nears its 30th anniversary, Capcom appears ready to push the boundaries of survival horror once again, this time, through the eyes of a character who truly feels the fear. As usual, our comparator is the most useful tool to check out the best deals to pre-order Resident Evil Requiem when they are available.
