The latest survival horror installment in the Resident Evil series has launched to strong critical acclaim, quickly establishing itself as one of the franchise's most celebrated mainline entries in decades. Developed and published by Capcom, Resident Evil Requiem has debuted with review scores that place it among the highest-rated releases in the series’ modern era.

A solid survival horror experience

On review aggregation platform Metacritic, the game opened with an average score in the high 80s on PlayStation 5, based on more than a hundred critic reviews within its launch window. That figure positions it ahead of recent numbered entries such as Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and marks the strongest critical performance for a mainline installment in ecent years. This represents a significant milestone for the long-running horror franchise, which has experienced varying levels of critical reception over the past two decades.

Resident Evil Requiem has been consistently praised for merging classic survival horror tension with modern action sensibilities. The game balances resource scarcity, exploration, and cinematic combat sequences, offering a solid experience that is poised as the natural evolution of the series’ recent design philosophy. The integration of legacy characters, most notably Leon S. Kennedy, with new narrative threads provides emotional weight and continuity that longtime fans will appreciate.

The launch reception has been overwhelmly positive so far, which is quite a notable feat when considering the franchise’is commercial resurgence in recent years through remakes and stylistic reinventions. Early player impressions have largely echoed critical sentiment, with community discussions praising the game's production values, refined combat systems, and return to a darker tonal palette. While debate continues over its narrative direction, the consensus at launch is clear: Resident Evil Requiem has reaffirmed the series' position at the forefront of modern survival horror by delivering one of the exciting experiences in the long history of the series.

Directly, I consider this Resident Evil Requiem a GOTY candidate, obviously. In one week they have sold a lot of copies, the critics are spectacular. Criticizing the game, it is almost perfect and, moreover, it is a game that remembers the fans of the saga who have been able to enjoy these games.

This game has been very well received, and I'm not at all worried about why. Capcom consistently succeeds in creating an intriguing story, with an oppressive atmosphere and credible art direction. The only reproach that can be levelled at them is the game's short duration.

It is indeed an extraordinary experience and for this reason it has earned the praise it is getting. A game not to be missed. GOTY candidate, obviously

The success of Resident Evil Requiem seems almost natural to me. As a fan of the Resident Evil saga, I felt the same passion with this episode as I did with the best moments of the series. The atmosphere is intense, heavy, and every moment succeeds in creating that unique tension that makes me love survival horror. There's a real sense of mastery, as much in the staging as in the gameplay. In fact, since the release of Resident Evil 2, I've found all the games in the license to be of the highest quality. There's a consistency, an attention to detail and a willingness to respect fans while modernizing the experience. Resident Evil Requiem confirms this dynamic: it's ambitious, accomplished and, above all, sincere. For me, it shows that the series is stronger than ever.

The reviews and criticisms are good for its amazing attention to detail is what makes you stop and take it all in. Although I find this game has a more serious, almost sterile feel to it in some sections than any previous RE, there is not a single dull moment.

The good reviews are well deserved. They've been on a roll since the the release of RE7 and each new game is better than the last (alright, RE3 wasn't that great, but the rest is true). Capcom has found a great balance between horror and action. I more than recommend it to everyone that enjoyed RE2, RE3 and especially RE4.

Not only has the latest chapter in Capcom's historic horror saga achieved record-breaking numbers on Steam since its debut, but it has also become the title with the highest "User Score" (the score obtained by averaging user ratings) ever on Metacritic. We're talking about a score of 9.5 out of 10, the highest ever recorded on the portal in terms of public approval. As for critics, the game currently boasts a Metascore of 88, with variations between 88 and 92 depending on the platform.

The community seems enthusiastic, praising the oppressive atmosphere and the return to more demanding survival horror. Capcom seems to have found the right formula to appeal to both historic fans and new players. I saw several videos and appreciated the quality of the staging, the constant tension and the care taken with the gameplay. It's as if the title confirms the solidity of the Resident Evil license, always capable of renewing itself while remaining true to its identity. Even without having played it, this success gives the impression of a landmark episode in the history of the saga.

If the reviews are good, it's because Capcom is doing things right. 5 million copies sold support those reviews. It looks like Pragmata will also be a game that will attract attention.
