Civilization V Gods and Kings is the first major expansion of the most famous turn-based strategy game.

Sick of picking Napoleon, Bismarck, Gandhi, or Ramses II? There are 9 new civilization leaders available in this expansion, including Attila from the Huns, the Maya under Pacal the Great, Dido from Carthage, and so many more. Obviously, each of the new civilizations will have unique units and special features.

Moreover, players will be able to create their own religion and even customize their various beliefs, thanks to the "faith" resource, which works exactly like science and culture.

Are you fond of technology? Espionage is for you because your spies will be capable of stealing technologies, as well as performing reconnaissance in enemy territories, and even rigging elections! However, there is a small downside, if your spy is captured, he may reveal information about your nation. This feature will not be available in the multiplayer mode.

To finish off, there will be three new scenarios: "Fall of Rome", "Into the Renaissance", and "Empire of the Smoky Skies", which is a steampunk scenario taking place in the Victorian Era.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the introduction of religion in Gods & Kings impact the early game compared to the base Civilization V?
Religion provides early game benefits like pantheon beliefs that can boost production, science, or culture, significantly influencing city development and expansion strategies, unlike the base game where early development focuses on raw resource gathering.
Explain the mechanics of city-states in Gods & Kings, including the implications of befriending or conquering them.
City-states provide unique benefits like resources, units, or culture based on the player's influence. Befriending them through quests and gold grants valuable alliances, while conquering them eliminates those benefits and incurs diplomatic penalties with other civilizations, influencing the game's political landscape.
How does the espionage system in Gods & Kings change diplomatic interactions and warfare?
Espionage allows players to steal technologies, sabotage production, and instigate city-state conflicts. These actions add a layer of subterfuge to diplomacy and provide new strategic options in warfare, different from the direct military focus in the base game.
What is the impact of different religious beliefs and how do they affect gameplay strategies?
Religious beliefs offer various bonuses related to faith generation, city growth, and military strength. Choosing the right belief to complement your civilization's strengths can dramatically alter your strategy. For instance, specific beliefs may boost science or culture, shaping a player's victory path.
Describe the role of Great People in Gods & Kings, and how it differs from the original Civilization V.
Great People in Gods & Kings play a more crucial role, with new types and abilities related to religion and espionage. They offer unique advantages such as spreading religion, boosting espionage, or generating significant faith, impacting the game beyond mere scientific or cultural boosts found in the base game.
How does the introduction of the 'Faith' resource influence the game, and what can it be used for?
Faith is a new resource used to purchase religious units, buildings, and Great People. It allows players to spread their religion, enhance their cities' benefits, and compete for religious dominance, creating a new victory path centered on faith generation and religious influence.
Explain the impact of the new civilizations and leaders introduced in Gods & Kings.
The new civilizations and leaders come with unique units, buildings, and abilities, impacting gameplay. Their unique traits add variety to strategic choices. For example, the Mayans' calendar bonus rewards early expansion, altering strategies compared to original civilizations.
How does the diplomacy system evolve in Gods & Kings compared to the base game, considering the changes to city-states and espionage?
Diplomacy is more complex, with the addition of city-state alliances and espionage. Players need to carefully manage their relationships with city-states, consider espionage actions, and navigate complex diplomatic interactions to succeed, contrasting with the less nuanced diplomacy in the original game.
How do religious units work and how do they affect combat and territorial control?
Religious units, like Missionaries and Inquisitors, are used to spread and defend a player's religion. They can convert cities, and the Inquisitor can remove foreign religions. They provide a religious combat aspect and new ways of asserting control of regions, changing the nature of military control of territories.
How do the new wonders in Gods & Kings impact gameplay?
New wonders provide unique advantages and strategic benefits related to religion, espionage, and diplomacy. They offer game-changing bonuses like increased faith generation, improved espionage capabilities, or stronger diplomatic relations. Building these wonders offers distinct advantages, compared to the original wonders of the base game.
