2K shows Civilization VII at Gamescom
Following a small teaser that left millions of fans of the popular strategy franchise eager to know more, 2K Games has finally announced officially Civilization VII. The next installment in the series created by Sid Meier was shown yesterday at Gamescom 2024 and it didn't disappoint. A spectacular video offered a first look at the game which boasts impressive graphics, far more detailed than the ones in Civilization VI. Not only does the game feature more and better animations, but every element in the map feels more alive. Also, Civilization VII promises to introduce plenty of gameplay enhancements.
Many novelties
The press release that accompanies the video sheds some light on the gameplay novelties that Civilization VII will feature. These will make the game more appealing to newcomers thanks to a new tutorial experience. However, the developer also promises exciting gameplay enhancements for veterans in the popular turn-based strategy series, including progression bonuses for the leaders and more. Shortly after the official presentation at Gamescom, Firaxis Games offered a deeper look at Civilization VII with the first gameplay video of the game, which offers more details.
The new game promises to offer a distinct gameplay experience in each era. Perhaps, the most significant change that Civilization VII is bringing to the table is that all nations will now move to a new era together. Not only will it make things harder for the players, but it will also have an impact on technology research. You will be able to research up to a specific point in any given era, only being allowed to accumulate bonuses for "future technologies" beyond that. This will be a game-changer in the series as it will give your opponents a better chance to catch up with you even if they do not push for technology development at the start of an era. Civilization VII will definitely be more challenging than any of its predecessors.
Civilization VII promises quite exciting gameplay novelties to the fans of the long-lived franchise, which is something great that will prevent it from becoming stagnant. Firaxis Games intends to make the experience even more engaging throughout every game, with a renewed focus on progression through every era, and a crisis that will define the passing from one era to another. Your deeds during a given era will set the pace for the next one but there will also be new opportunities to catch up for those who made mistakes.
Alongside both videos, Firaxis Games has also confirmed the official release date for Civilization VII which is scheduled for February 11, 2025. As usual, you can keep track of the best discounts to buy Civilization VII with our comparator already.
