    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Era system in HUMANKIND affect my civilization's progression and the gameplay flow?
The Era system dictates which technologies, units, and city improvements are available. Successfully navigating each era by meeting specific goals unlocks new options and influences your civilization's unique legacy, while failing to meet the criteria can put you at a disadvantage.
Can you explain the significance of 'Fame' in HUMANKIND, and how it differs from traditional victory conditions?
Fame is the primary way to win. It's accumulated through various actions like discovering technologies, winning battles, constructing wonders, and influencing cultures. The civilization with the most Fame at the end of the game wins, encouraging diverse strategies beyond simple domination.
How does the game handle the interaction between different cultures when a player chooses to change their culture?
When you evolve your culture, you gain access to new unit types, city districts, and unique abilities associated with your chosen era. The previous culture's traits are not directly transferred, but you build upon your past decisions by choosing the next culture.
What is the 'Influence' resource, and how does it contribute to diplomacy and territorial control?
Influence is a resource generated by your cities and is used to make claims on territories, pressure other civilizations, form alliances, and even change the beliefs of independent cities. It's crucial for both expansion and diplomatic maneuvering.
How does HUMANKIND's combat system, particularly the 'Battle' system, work in practice?
Battles take place on a tactical map where your units are deployed. Terrain, unit types, and tactical positioning significantly impact the outcome. Success in battle provides bonuses to fame.
How does HUMANKIND represent the concept of 'legacy' and how do my choices build it?
Your legacy is the cumulative impact of your decisions throughout the game. Your choices in each era, such as selecting a certain culture or building a wonder, contribute to a unique civilization history, affecting your civilization's bonuses.
How does the 'Civic' system impact the development of your civilization, and how does it offer strategic choices?
The Civic system represents your society's values and laws. Each choice provides various bonuses and affects how your civilization interacts with others. Civics often create conflict with other players, forcing you to make tough decisions.
What is the function of 'Wonders' in HUMANKIND, and how do they differ from city improvements?
Wonders provide significant and unique bonuses to your civilization. Unlike city improvements, they usually offer civilization-wide effects and are often tied to specific eras or cultural affinities. They are hard to build, but the benefits are substantial.
How does the 'Endless' research tree work?
The technology tree branches during gameplay, and you must choose which branch to research. There are always multiple options, offering several avenues to increase your civilization's strength. The choices you make will heavily influence how you play the game.
How does the map generation create a unique experience each game, and what should I consider when settling?
The game uses a procedural map generation system that creates a varied environment. The terrain and resources found on the map will heavily influence how you expand, as well as where you choose to found new cities.
