FF7 Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2 Needs 100GB

You will need 100GB of free space to play FF7 Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2

Square Enix has issued an updated storage estimate for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Nintendo Switch 2, and the numbers are even higher than early listings suggested. What was already expected to be a large download has now ballooned into one of the system’s biggest file sizes to date.

On November 20, the official Final Fantasy VII account clarified that the older listings were inaccurate. The Standard Edition will require between 90GB and 95GB, while the Limited Early Purchase and Digital Deluxe versions will range from 93.8GB to 99GB. Even at the low end, the game far exceeds the Switch 2’s current 64GB cartridge limit, confirming that the physical release will use a Game-Key Card, Nintendo’s new storage-offloading solution for oversized titles.

A Massive Port With Massive Requirements

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade’s file size is comparable to its footprint on PS5 and PC, but the Switch 2’s more limited internal storage—roughly 230GB usable out of the box—is making fans uneasy. Without a microSD upgrade, nearly half the console’s available space could be eaten by a single game. And that’s before considering its sequels, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the still-untitled third entry, which may also push the system’s storage ceiling.

Square Enix recently defended the Game-Key Card approach, noting that the format allows significantly faster loading than traditional cartridges and helps developers preserve the quality of high-end ports. Still, the update has reignited debate about long-term game ownership and how storage-heavy the Switch 2 generation might become.

Before this update, Square Enix had already reassured fans that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would deliver “just as high-quality” performance on Switch 2 as its PS5 counterpart, thanks to the studio’s advanced optimization tech and experience scaling the game for handheld platforms.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launches on January 22, 2026 for Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2, giving players a couple of months to expand their storage—or clear out their libraries—before Cloud, Tifa, and Barret arrive on Nintendo’s hardware.
