FF7 Remake Intergrade performance capped at 30 FPS for Switch 2
Square Enix has officially clarified the performance details for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2, confirming the port will run at a capped 30 frames per second. While the game’s visuals will remain crisp and polished, the performance news has sparked debate among fans who had hoped the remake would benefit from the new hardware with higher frame rates.
Originally released for PlayStation, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade has become a staple in Square Enix’s lineup, offering enhanced visuals and expanded content compared to the base remake. Now, with all three entries in the remake project confirmed for Switch 2, anticipation has been sky-high. Many believed the more powerful hardware could allow smoother gameplay, especially since Cyberpunk 2077 was already shown running at 40 FPS on the same console.
Fans Divided Over Frame Rate Decision

Square Enix addressed the matter directly in a recent tweet, stating that the Switch 2 version will run at 30 FPS “to maintain stability and visual fidelity.” While the developer highlighted the upgraded graphics, many fans online expressed disappointment, pointing out that titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can reach 60 FPS on the console.
The decision is especially puzzling for some because Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is a more linear experience compared to sprawling open-world games. Fans remain hopeful that Square Enix could release a patch in the future to unlock higher frame rates, though nothing has been confirmed.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is also set to launch on Xbox this winter, following the surprise release of Final Fantasy XVI on the platform earlier this year. While no firm release date has been given for either Switch 2 or Xbox, more details could arrive during the Tokyo Game Show.
