World of Warcraft: The War Within is just the beginning
Starting today, many players from all over the world will be immersed for the first time in the new content coming with the new World of Warcraft expansion. The early access period for World of Warcraft: The War Within kicks off today and there are millions of players who are eager to discover all that the expansion has to offer. There is a lot to discover in the expansion, including a new allied race, hero talents, new zones, a plethora of new quests and challenging enemies that will put your skill to the test, and more. However, the most important detail about this new expansion is its story, as it will be tied to the following two expansions in a way never seen before in the popular MMORPG. The War Within is just the first chapter in the Worldsoul Saga, a bigger story spanning the expansions that will define the future of Azeroth.
A long path ahead
World of Warcraft: The War Within will allow players to delve underground, into the unexplored depths of the planet to face a rising threat. Nerubians are trying to expand their frontiers while being manipulated from the shadows by an enemy that is even more dangerous, and the heroes will leave aside their differences once more to save the planet. This doesn't look bad as the beginning of a saga, but the story still holds many unknowns and possible branches. Fortunately, franchise Creative Director Chris Metzen has shed some light on the expansion and the saga in a recent interview.
The War Within has been designed to bring previous storylines together and it brings back iconic characters like Anduin, Thrall, Jaina, and Khadgar. The main goal of the expansion is to offer players a great experience and allow them to make meaningful choices. With a storyline that is more immersive than ever, the development team aims to somehow "prolong" the experience so it's part of a bigger saga. Until now, World of Warcraft expansions offered experiences that were kind of independent, and which changed a lot from one to another in terms of story and gameplay features. Hopefully, the Worldsoul Saga will offer a more streamlined experience while maintaining World of Warcraft fresh.
The impact of all this is yet to be determined as World of Warcraft: The War Within is just beginning its journey.
