The worlds of Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft are officially coming together in one of the most anticipated tabletop RPG collaborations in recent years. Revealed following an early retailer leak and later confirmed by Wizards of the Coast, the upcoming D&D 5E World of Warcraft sourcebook will allow players to embark on adventures across Azeroth using the latest Fifth Edition rules.

This marks Azeroth's arrival alongside the legendary campaign settings that inspired iconic RPGs like Baldur's Gate III. Rather than serving as an MMO crossover event, the project adapts Blizzard's iconic fantasy universe into a fully playable tabletop campaign setting, giving fans the freedom to create their own heroes and stories beyond the events of the online game.

New Races, Classes, and Warcraft Adventures Await

The sourcebook is expected to feature a wealth of Warcraft-inspired content, including 16 playable races, more than 60 spells, dozens of monsters, magical items, and recognizable Warcraft locations. Players can explore classic regions and tackle tabletop versions of legendary dungeons while encountering iconic bosses from Azeroth's long history.

Reports also suggest the book will introduce multiple new classes or class options, along with a reputation system that reflects the alliances and rivalries of Warcraft's many factions, adding another layer of role-playing depth to the experience.

Why This Could Be Warcraft's Biggest Tabletop Adventure Yet

For longtime fans, the collaboration represents a return to familiar territory. Blizzard previously licensed official Warcraft tabletop RPGs based on D&D 3.5 rules in the early 2000s, but those books have long been out of print. This new release modernizes Azeroth for the current 5E ruleset while preserving the setting's rich lore and expansive worldbuilding.

Whether players want to defend Stormwind, fight alongside the Horde, or craft entirely original campaigns, the D&D x World of Warcraft sourcebook promises to offer countless storytelling opportunities. As excitement continues to build ahead of its expected release, the crossover is shaping up to be one of the biggest tabletop gaming launches for Warcraft fans in years.

I enjoy the World of Warcraft universe as a video game, but tabletop role-playing isn't a format I enjoy. I understand that this might appeal to D&D and lore fans, but I'd rather discover Azeroth behind a screen than around a table. I hope this adaptation is a success for its intended audience.

It is nice seeing this become a full sourcebook instead of a small crossover event. Azeroth has enough history that it deserves room for longer adventures instead of just a few themed sessions.

The idea is interesting, even for players who don't regularly play Dungeons & Dragons. Seeing Azeroth adapted into a tabletop game requires a lot of balancing and writing. The announced content seems significant; it remains to be seen how it will be received by the communities of both licenses.

I think this collaboration is incredibly exciting for both Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft fans. Bringing Azeroth to the tabletop with its 5E rules will give players the freedom to write their own adventures instead of following the MMO's narratives. If the content is as comprehensive as promised, it could become a valuable resource for those who want to experience the Warcraft universe in a different way.
