Split Fiction story trailer shows the power of friendship
Electronic Arts and Hazelight have unveiled a new story trailer for Split Fiction, a split-screen co-op adventure game. The story follows Mio and Zoe, two writers with distinct personalities who end up trapped inside their own literary creations after being connected to a machine that steals creative ideas.
Split Fiction was announced during The Game Awards 2024, where Josef Fares took the stage alongside Geoff Keighley to talk more about his game. The creator of It Takes Two and A Way Out is sticking to his formula in this new title, delivering a cooperative experience that demands strong coordination and communication between both players. Split Fiction will feature a system very similar to It Takes Two but within its own unique universe. Hazelight provided more details about the game's story in a new trailer.
Split Fiction Official Story Trailer
After Mio and Zoe become trapped inside simulations, they must work together, exploring worlds that range from sci-fi to fantasy, all based on their own literary creations. They'll need to master unique abilities and tackle unpredictable challenges of their own making. Each level introduces new mechanics, from dance battles to platforming and stealth missions, ensuring constant variety and surprises. Split Fiction promises an authentic co-op experience, requiring perfect sync and player communication. With Friend's Pass, one player can invite a friend to join for free, even on different platforms.
According to the video, the narrative focuses on the evolving relationship between Mio and Zoe, which starts off rocky but gradually strengthens as they learn to trust each other to survive. The storytelling follows the same style as It Takes Two, packed with banter between the characters, making them feel real and helping enrich the narrative.
If you're unsure about the quality of Split Fiction, just look at Josef Fares' past accolades. It Takes Two won six awards at The Game Awards 2021, including Game of the Year. Recently, it was revealed that the game has sold over 20 million units—an astronomical number for its scale production. Despite the co-op requirement, there are plenty of ways to invite a friend to join the adventure, a feature that will carry over into Split Fiction.
Split Fiction launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on March 6. A Switch 2 version is likely in the pipeline, though it might take some time.
