Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy unveils new gameplay trailer
Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment have unveiled an extensive new gameplay video for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, giving players their clearest look yet at the upcoming action-adventure title after officially confirming its release date. The game is set to launch on August 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Beautiful and engaging
The newly released footage showcases a different side of the A Plague Tale universe, which began with A plague Tale: Innocence, shifting the focus from the survival-driven experiences of previous entries toward a more action-oriented adventure. Players will step into the role of Sophia, the skilled smuggler first introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem, as she embarks on a dangerous quest tied to her past and the ancient mysteries of a legendary island.
Set years before the events of Requiem, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes players to the enigmatic Minotaur's Island, a location steeped in myth and hidden secrets. The gameplay video highlights a journey through sprawling ruins, forgotten temples, and underground labyrinths, all while Sophia uncovers clues connected to a long-buried civilization and a growing supernatural threat.
Combat appears to play a much larger role than in previous games from the series. The gameplay trailer features sword-based encounters that require players to dodge attacks, counter enemies, and make use of the environment during battles. Sophia is also equipped with a mysterious sphere that can manipulate light, serving both as a tool for solving puzzles and as a key element in exploration. The device allows players to activate ancient mechanisms, reveal hidden pathways, and navigate dangerous areas where darkness itself becomes a threat.
Exploration is another major focus of the new footage. Players will traverse a variety of environments inspired by Mediterranean landscapes, from sunlit coastal cliffs to massive underground chambers filled with traps and ancient machinery. The game appears to blend historical influences with mythology, creating a setting that feels distinct from the plague-ravaged regions seen in earlier installments.
According to the developers, the story will explore the origins of ancient forces that have shaped the world of A Plague Tale, while also diving deeper into Sophia's personal history. As she ventures further into the island's secrets, players will encounter powerful enemies, unravel forgotten legends, and uncover connections between the past and the future of the franchise.
The latest gameplay reveal suggests that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy aims to expand the series beyond its established formula while maintaining the strong storytelling and atmospheric world-building that have become hallmarks of Asobo Studio's work. With its mix of action, exploration, puzzles, and mythological intrigue, the game is shaping up to be one of the studio's most ambitious projects to date.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches on August 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and will also be available through Xbox Game Pass on day one.
