Borderlands 4 Reveals Rafa, the Exo-Soldier, in Intense Gameplay
Gearbox has unveiled a brand-new character trailer for Borderlands 4, spotlighting Rafa, the Exo-Soldier, and his adrenaline-fueled combat style. The video showcases his high-tech Deadframe exo-suit, a mix of raw power and surgical precision, giving fans a taste of what to expect from this cybernetic powerhouse when the game launches later this year.
Multiple combat styles
Rafa is all about momentum and aggression. His signature Arc-Knives allow him to dash between enemies in a flurry of electrified slashes, switching to a dynamic third-person perspective for cinematic finishers. The highlight of his melee arsenal is the devastating Blade Fury, a spinning storm of energy-infused attacks that clears the battlefield with shocking efficiency.
For mid-range combat, Rafa deploys his Peacebreaker Cannons, twin shoulder-mounted turrets that automatically track and pin down targets. With the right upgrades, these cannons can even be deployed as a stationary turret for added battlefield control, giving players flexible options during chaotic encounters.
His ranged capabilities don't stop there. Rafa wields the APOPHIS Lance, a morphing arm cannon that fires plasma-charged orbs capable of tearing through enemy ranks. The weapon's versatility allows players to switch between rapid volleys and single, devastating blasts, making it a perfect tool for high-stakes firefights.
Rafa's unique Overdrive trait sets him apart from past Vault Hunters. Whenever his action skills are active, both his movement speed and damage output receive a significant boost, encouraging a fast-paced, aggressive playstyle. Veterans of the series will appreciate his tactical flexibility, while new players will find his toolkit accessible yet satisfying to master.
With its mix of melee agility, heavy ordnance, and turret support, Rafa feels like a spiritual successor to Borderlands icons like Axton and Zer0, but with a modern, exo-suit twist. His design offers something for every type of player, from those who thrive on close-quarters combat to fans of ranged firepower. Rafa's trailer cements him as one of the most exciting additions to the new Vault Hunters. Whether you’re slicing through waves of enemies with electrified blades or turning the tide of battle with high-tech weaponry, Rafa promises to deliver an action-packed experience when the game drops this fall.
Borderlands 4 is set to release on September 12, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version following on October 3, 2025. Pre-orders are already live across various editions, including Standard, Deluxe, and Collector's versions.
