Frostburn Expands Far Far West With New Gameplay Content

Far Far West launches Frostburn, expanding gameplay with new content
Updates & Patches

Far Far West has officially released Frostburn, the first major update since the game launched. Version 0.2.0.2 not only adds new content but also significantly expands how players approach each run, with a large number of new weapons, a new map, and major changes to the character progression system. Frostburn also comes with over 100 bug fixes, along with numerous improvements to balance, AI, and the overall experience.

Far Far West Welcomes a Wave of New Changes with Frostburn

Frostburn primarily focuses on expanding the gameplay of Far Far West. One of the biggest additions is the introduction of melee weapons, giving players a new way to play alongside the existing ranged weapons. Knuckles, Lasso, and Banjo each offer a different playstyle and are supported by new upgrades and Jokers, giving players more options when building their setups.

To support melee combat, the update also introduces Shield Points, a new defensive layer that absorbs damage before it affects HP. The system works directly with various weapons, Jokers, and Frost spells, encouraging players to experiment with builds focused on defense or getting up close to enemies.

The Frost Element is another major addition in Frostburn. This new element allows players to freeze enemies and generate Shield Points, while also introducing several spells designed for offense, defense, and team support. The combination of Frost, Shield, and melee gives Far Far West an entirely new gameplay direction to explore. The update also expands the exploration side of the game. Hellfire is a new map set in a dangerous volcanic environment, complete with its own quests and secrets. Jungle has also received additional quests and a new secret. The new Lighthouse system makes it easier for players to discover special locations scattered across the map.

On the progression side, Item Fragments have been replaced by Blueprints, while Uranium has been introduced as a new resource used during missions. These changes are designed to simplify the process of unlocking weapons and give activities during missions a clearer purpose.

Frostburn also adds a large number of new Jokers and adjusts many existing ones, expanding the possibilities for building characters and weapons. The developers say these changes are aimed at creating more playstyles while reducing reliance on certain overly powerful options. Alongside the new content, Frostburn brings a major balance pass covering weapons, spells, Jokers, upgrades, and enemies. The AI system has also been partially rewritten to improve enemy behavior and reduce CPU usage. More than 100 bugs have been fixed, along with various improvements to the UI, visual effects, audio, and overall stability.

Frostburn is therefore more than just a content update, marking the first major expansion of Far Far West since launch. The development team has also published a roadmap and says it plans to share more regular updates on the game's development going forward, suggesting that these changes are only part of its long-term plans. With Frostburn now officially available, this is also a good time for returning players to discover the new playstyles, while newcomers have even more reasons to step into the world of Far Far West. The game is currently available at 20% off for two weeks to celebrate the update.
