Age of Wonders 4: Explore New Horizons in Expansion Pass 4
No empire in a fantasy world can hold on to power forever without exploring new lands. After years of continuous expansion, Age of Wonders 4 continues to show Triumph Studios' ambition with Age of Wonders 4: Expansion Pass 4, officially released on October 1, 2026. This time, conquest is no longer limited to familiar territories, as vast oceans, enchanted forests, and ancient Dwarven creations are set to become the focus of the next chapter in empire building.
From the Power of Storms to Empires Beyond the Mainland
Age of Wonders 4: Expansion Pass 4 includes four content packs, with Singer of Storms available immediately upon purchase. The remaining three expansions will arrive according to a release schedule stretching from late 2026 to mid-2027. This distribution model is already familiar to the Age of Wonders 4 community, following the vampire, nomad, and ancient magic-themed content previously introduced in Expansion Pass 3, allowing players to secure a collection of upcoming content rather than purchasing each expansion separately when it launches.
Singer of Storms begins the journey with Mael of the Choristers of the Storm, a premade Ruler themed around the power of storms. The pack introduces the Tempest Orb, Storm Seamare, new equipment and appearance customization options, and the Tidecallers Society Trait, which allows players to recruit various water-based units. Although relatively modest in scope compared to the upcoming expansions, these additions offer more ways to customize factions while establishing a thematic connection to the maritime adventures Triumph Studios has planned.
Scheduled for release on November 3, 2026, The Silver Seas is arguably the main attraction of this expansion roadmap. The DLC aims to make the oceans a more important part of empire-building strategy rather than simply serving as barriers between different territories. Its biggest addition is the Mercantile Culture, a new culture centered on trade, economic influence, and territorial control. Players will be able to establish cities on both land and sea, take advantage of trade opportunities, and use their economic strength to gain an edge over rival empires. The two development paths, Cartel and Barony, make this system even more interesting. Cartel focuses on manipulating information and secret smuggling operations, while Barony relies on the power of the nobility, military forces, and bounties to put pressure on enemies.
Beyond its focus on commerce, The Silver Seas also introduces two new forms, Aqualon and Sharkkin, four magical Tomes, new sea creatures, and additional locations and events to discover across the oceans. Pirate settlements led by captains with their own personalities and demands also promise some interesting encounters during exploration. Together, these additions expand both faction customization and the choices available to players as they develop their empires.
Furthermore, in a Dev Diary published on October 8, Triumph Studios introduced the Trade Routes system, which will arrive as part of the free Manta Update alongside The Silver Seas. This system allows cities to establish trade connections with outposts, Free Cities, and other empires to generate additional income. While Trade Routes will be available to all players, the Mercantile Culture and the expansion's distinctive maritime content will remain exclusive to the paid DLC. Combining these two systems could introduce more opportunities for economic development and diplomacy in Age of Wonders 4.
Triumph Studios' new direction has also attracted attention from the community. In discussions on Reddit, many players have expressed excitement about the Sharkkin, pirate themes, and the possibility of building trade-focused empires. Some have also pointed out that naval combat and exploration previously lacked the same depth as other parts of the game. However, others remain cautious, particularly about whether the upcoming changes will genuinely improve naval warfare. These reactions reflect considerable anticipation, although the actual quality of The Silver Seas will only become clear after its release.
And the journey of Age of Wonders 4: Expansion Pass 4 doesn't end at sea. In Q1 2027, Court of the Archfey will introduce illusion magic, deepwood spirits, and the power of changing seasons, alongside a new Ruler Type, Form, Tome, and Story Realms. Following that, Forge of the Firstborn, scheduled for Q2 2027, will explore the ancient legacy of the Dwarves through forging mechanics, living golem warriors, and the ability to customize units with magical powers. These two expansions promise very different approaches compared to the maritime content, giving fans of fantasy empire building even more ways to shape their kingdoms.
Of course, the actual quality of the three unreleased expansions will need to be evaluated once they become available. Still, based on what has been announced so far, Age of Wonders 4: Expansion Pass 4 offers an ambitious roadmap that stretches from maritime trade to ancient magic and the art of creation.
