Nightreign Update Celebrates 3.5M Players in Elden Ring

It’s been just over a week since Elden Ring: Nightreign launched, and the latest chapter in FromSoftware’s dark fantasy epic is already off to an impressive start. In a post on X, the official Elden Ring account revealed that over 3.5 million players have joined the battle against the Night in the game’s first five days. “We are ever grateful for your passion,” the post added, marking a major early milestone for the expansion.

Launched on May 30, Elden Ring: Nightreign expands the world of Elden Ring with new challenges, enemies, and modes—but not without its share of early criticism. One of the most requested features prior to launch was a dedicated Duos mode, allowing players to take on Elden Ring: Nightreign’s content in two-player squads. At launch, the game supported full three-player parties or solo play, but lacked an official way for pairs to team up.

FromSoftware Confirms Duo Expeditions Are Coming

Thanks to player demand—and the success of the launch—FromSoftware has now officially confirmed that Duo Expeditions will be added to Elden Ring: Nightreign in a future update. 

“In addition to the DLC releasing later this year, new additions will be gradually implemented, including enhanced fights against existing Nightlords starting this month, as well as Duo Expeditions at a later date.

The addition of Duos is a major win for the Elden Ring: Nightreign community, especially for those who felt stuck between playing alone or assembling a full squad. While no date has been announced yet, players are hopeful that the new mode will be better balanced from the start—something solo mode initially struggled with.

Earlier updates have already improved the solo experience by increasing rune rewards and introducing an Automatic Revival Upon Defeat feature, giving solo players a one-time revive during boss encounters.
