Darktide Showcases Arbites Class in New Gameplay Reveal
Fatshark has unveiled a detailed look at the upcoming Arbites class for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide through a seven-minute extended gameplay video, following the announcement of the new class during the 2025 PC Gaming Show. The footage offers fans their first in-depth glimpse at the class’s tactical abilities, weapon loadouts, and signature cyber-mastiff companion. The new class will officially launch on June 23, 2025, across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
More than a man and his dog
The Arbites features new gameplay mechanics but the one that defines it as a class and sets it apart from the others is the cyber-mastiff, a mechanical canine companion designed for crowd control and elite takedowns. The video demonstrates the mastiff's ability to autonomously engage and disable enemies, often staggering or killing standard mobs and even slowing down tougher targets like Maulers. One standout ability is its Remote Detonation blitz, which can be triggered to cause a small explosive blast, giving players a new way to manage enemy groups or secure flanks.
The Arbites is a heavily armored class, clad in signature carapace armor and wielding both brute force and precision tools. Players can choose between a Dominator Maul or a combat shotgun with a unique "duckbill" pellet spread, ideal for dealing with clustered enemies. The shield-based melee combat plays a key role in their style. Players will have at their disposal a charge attack reminiscent of the Ogryn's bull rush and a powerful stun combo that interrupts enemies in close quarters. Shield mechanics appear central to both offensive and defensive strategies.
Customization also plays a significant role. The class features an expansive 80-node skill tree, allowing players to tailor their Arbites’ role within a squad. This includes options for mastiff upgrades, voice profiles, and more. This blend of utility and force suggests the Arbites may excel at area control and frontline disruption, rather than pure damage output.
The Arbites class introduces a fresh, thematic experience to Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, emphasizing law enforcement aesthetics, close-quarters control, and support-based tactics. With its unique blend of shield combat, utility weapons, and a loyal cyber-hound, the class could become a new favorite, depending on how it performs in real missions beyond showcase footage.
Players will be able to test the Arbites class firsthand when it launches on June 23, and only then will its full potential in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000 truly be judged.
