Age of Wonders 4 takes the series to the next level

It's been nine long years since Age of Wonders III was released and things have not changed much for the fans of the franchise at this time. Like its predecessor, Age of Wonders 4 puts you in the shoes of a ruler who leads his faction through an exciting campaign. New factions to choose from, different heroes, each one with its own powers and abilities that influence the lands they govern and the armies under their control, several campaigns to explore, and many surprises await you in the new installment of the popular series. Progressing in the game involves exploring neighboring lands, fighting against monsters, and interacting with other factions on a 4X-style overworld map. By gathering resources, managing your economy, building cities, and recruiting units for your armies you will expand your empire and try to complete the goals in each scenario to progress through the story. Of course, Age of Wonders 4 also features multiplayer battles where several factions compete against each other to claim dominance.

When it comes to combat, Age of Wonders 4 features tactical turn-based battles on a hexagonal grid. You deploy your units and support them with spells and attacks while trying to destroy your opponents with minimum losses. Depending on your faction and the events on the overworld map, you will have access to different units, each with its own abilities and stats. Only by combining them will you be able to fight efficiently and surpass your opponents. Luckily for you, Age of Wonders 4 includes a vast array of troops that you can choose from ranging from infantry soldiers to magic users and mythical beasts, so you can try plenty of different strategies. 

Overall, Age of Wonders 4 offers an experience that could reminisce Civilization to some players, but in the end, the amazing level of detail, the fantasy setting, and the unique gameplay mechanics make the game stand out on its own merits.
