Several years have passed since the incident in Willamette and the events of Dead Rising. With Dead Rising 2, the story shifts from the American Midwest to the glitz and glamour of Fortune City, the largest playground in the United States. People flock from all over the world to escape reality and head to Fortune City for a chance to hit the jackpot on the TV show “Terror Is Reality.”
Like millions of Americans, Chuck Greene, a former national motocross champion, is thrust into the show “Terror Is Reality.” Hosted by the charismatic Tyrone King, the show selects audience members to compete in the arena with a simple challenge: kill more zombies than their opponents and stay alive as long as possible while earning as much money as they can—hoping to walk away with the grand prize.
But what could have driven Chuck to come to Fortune City and risk his life in a modern-day gladiator tournament? Is he trying to reclaim his former glory as a motocross champion? Does he have a reason to hate zombies? Or is it simply the lure of money?
With hundreds of zombies on screen at any given moment, the first Dead Rising encouraged players to pick up everyday objects found in a shopping mall. Now, in Dead Rising 2, players will face thousands of zombies roaming through Fortune City. As a result, Chuck will need to be creative and resourceful…
By combining weapons to customize them, players can take two items and a roll of duct tape. With a bit of ingenuity, they can create highly optimized combo weapons to slaughter zombies. For example, combining a plank of wood with a lawn mower allows players to slice through zombies in one go, while attaching a car battery to the mower creates an electrified weapon capable of pushing back entire hordes.
Creating and combining weapons also allows players to earn Prestige Points (PP), which enable Chuck to level up.
Dead Rising 2 will also feature a 2-player co-op Story Mode as well as competitive multiplayer modes for up to 4 players.
The game was developed by the Canadian studio Blue Castle Games in close collaboration with Capcom. Many individuals who worked on the original Dead Rising contributed alongside the Blue Castle team throughout development, including Keiji Inafune, Global Head of Research and Development, who served as a full producer on the project.
