Voidling Bound Arrives with a Fresh Creature Collection Experience
After making appearances at several indie gaming events and steadily building interest among fans of the genre, Voidling Bound has officially launched on PC. Developed by Hatchery Games, a studio that includes several former developers from the Skylanders franchise, the game takes a different approach to the creature collector formula by placing a strong emphasis on real-time combat and deep creature customization.
The New Title from Former Skylanders Developers Blends Real-Time Action with Deep Evolution Systems
Players step into the role of a Space Wrangler tasked with cleansing planets that have fallen under the influence of a corrupting force. To carry out this mission, they form a bond with creatures known as Voidlings, unique beings capable of resisting the threat spreading across the galaxy. Rather than issuing commands from a distance, players take direct control of their Voidlings in third-person combat, battling enemies, completing objectives, and exploring colorful alien worlds along the way.
What truly helps Voidling Bound stand out is the way it blends action-focused gameplay with long-term creature progression. Each expedition sends players into dangerous missions where they must defeat enemies, gather resources, collect eggs, and earn Research Points before returning to base to strengthen and expand their roster.
The core gameplay loop includes:
- Exploring planets across a variety of biomes.
- Completing missions and gathering resources.
- Collecting new Voidling eggs.
- Upgrading and evolving creatures.
- Using Breeding to create stronger generations.
- Building teams tailored to different challenges.
One of the game's biggest strengths lies in the depth of its progression systems. Voidling Bound begins with 9 base Voidling species, but those creatures can evolve into 62 different forms through unique Evolution Trees. Each evolutionary path comes with its own abilities, elemental affinities, combat role, and Ultimate Ability, allowing players to develop a wide range of playstyles, from close-range brawlers and ranged attackers to support-focused and defensive builds.
The customization doesn't stop there, as Genes, Breeding, Mutations, and Catalysts open the door to even more experimentation. According to the developers, players can create up to 775 different progression configurations by combining traits, abilities, and evolutionary paths. This level of flexibility adds significant replay value, giving players countless opportunities to refine and reinvent their favorite Voidlings.
While Pokémon is often associated with collecting and raising creatures, Voidling Bound places a greater emphasis on build crafting and optimization. The result is an experience that feels closer to an action RPG while still retaining the appeal of the creature collector genre.
Combat itself is heavily skill-driven rather than being determined solely by character statistics. Players must manage cooldowns, position themselves carefully, dodge incoming attacks, and execute well-timed parries to get the most out of each Voidling's abilities.
Once the main adventure is complete, players can continue pushing their builds further in Abyss Mode. This endgame activity features increasingly difficult challenge floors and rewards players with rare Catalysts that can dramatically alter the way a character is built. The trade-offs introduced by these powerful upgrades add another strategic layer to progression, encouraging players to constantly experiment with new combinations and playstyles.
With its colorful visual style, deep creature progression systems, and action-oriented gameplay that recalls some of the qualities that made Skylanders so memorable, Voidling Bound has the potential to become one of the most interesting new entries in the creature collector genre in 2026. Players who enjoy collecting, raising, and directly controlling creatures in combat will find plenty to appreciate in Hatchery Games' latest adventure.
