BrokenLore: DON'T LIE — What It Changes From DON'T WATCH
Serafini Productions is back with another trip into the uncomfortable corners of the human psyche. BrokenLore: DON'T LIE is a first-person psychological horror game built around Junko, a hikikomori whose carefully controlled life begins to unravel when her past resurfaces. Released on September 10, 2026, it is the latest standalone story in the BrokenLore series.
It is easy to look at DON'T LIE and immediately think of BrokenLore: DON'T WATCH, the 2025 game that introduced players to Shinji, a hikikomori trapped inside his Tokyo apartment while a supernatural entity called Hyakume watches him. The two games clearly share a creative foundation, but the newer one changes the machinery of its horror in some important ways. BrokenLore: DON'T LIE is a story about trauma, isolation and fractured reality, set in a distorted environment shaped by Junko's memories. Junko has withdrawn from the outside world after experiences of rejection and humiliation. Her father was physically present but emotionally absent, and her attempts to connect with others ultimately pushed her further into isolation. As her past resurfaces, the boundaries between memory and reality begin to fracture.
A new protagonist and a different kind of nightmare
BrokenLore: DON'T LIE introduces Junko, a young woman who has withdrawn almost completely from society after years of rejection and humiliation. Her carefully controlled existence begins to collapse when buried memories return, causing the boundaries between her past and present to deteriorate. Her apartment becomes the starting point for the investigation. Players search through messages, files and environmental clues while attempting to piece together Junko's history. But this isn't simply a detective story where every clue leads neatly to an answer. The environment itself becomes unreliable, shifting into distorted versions of familiar places as Junko's memories and fears begin manifesting around her. That gives BrokenLore: DON'T LIE a particularly interesting horror hook: the house isn't necessarily haunted — your perception of the house is.
The game also introduces an unseen presence that reacts to the player's behaviour. Staying out of sight and moving carefully therefore becomes part of the experience, adding stealth and survival-horror tension to what could otherwise have been a purely narrative psychological thriller. Also, the game's most distinctive feature is its fractured reality system. Familiar environments can shift into warped, liminal spaces shaped by Junko's memories, with those memories and fears manifesting in the world around her. The player has to navigate environments that are no longer reliably familiar, which makes Junko's psychological state relevant not just to the story but to how the world is presented.
The horror moves from surveillance to perception
BrokenLore: DON'T LIE clearly diverges thematically from its predecessor in this point. DON'T WATCH revolves around being watched. Hyakume is an explicit supernatural threat, and the game's premise repeatedly emphasizes Shinji's isolation and the presence of something observing him. Instead, DON'T LIE revolves around the breakdown of the boundary between reality and recollection. We could say that the new game is "about not trusting yourself".
Rather than presenting DON'T LIE as a conventional continuation of Shinji's story, Serafini Productions is using the BrokenLore label to tell another psychological horror story. The protagonists are different, the central circumstances are different and the specific source of tension is different. DON'T LIE makes isolation frightening because Junko's relationship with her own past is falling apart.
BrokenLore: DON'T LIE offers a different approach to horror than its predecessor. If you want to discover it by yourself, feel free to visit our comparator and get your copy of BrokenLore: DON'T LIE at the lowest price.
