The release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in numbers
If we leave aside the big controversy that certain aspects of the game and its marketing campaign have generated in the last few days and strictly follow the numbers, it turns out that Dragon Age: The Veilguard may not be the end of BioWare. The game was released yesterday on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, and there were high expectations about its performance and results. After all, the Dragon Age series has always been a favourite among fans of the RPG genre for its unique and dark world, thrilling stories, and challenging combat. However, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has introduced many changes to the franchise, and the game is not exactly like its predecessors. This alone granted it many detractors ahead of release, but were the doomsayers right about the game? Is Dragon Age: The Veilguard going to be the final nail in BioWare's coffin?
Alive and kicking
Well, according to the numbers the Dragon Age series is nowhere close to disappearing with Dragon Age: The Veilguard. If we look at the numbers on Steam alone, it's EA's biggest-ever single-player release with a peak of 71,614 at the time of writing this article. Those are several thousand more players than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which had held the record previously. It's an excellent start for a game, especially with a weekend ahead. However, we will still have to wait a bit longer to see how it fares in the future.
The overall reception seems to be positive, especially regarding gameplay. The renewed focus on the main character seems to appeal to many players who were doubtful about not being able to control companions directly. The story is fine, and the voice acting is good, but the main concern about the game seems to be its dialogues, which feel a bit out of place sometimes.
Is Dragon Age: The Veilguard the game most fans of the series were waiting for? Probably not, but it offers an experience solid enough to deserve a try. Of course, you can rest assured that the best price to purchase Dragon Age: The Veilguard is available with our comparator if you want to check out the game yourself.
