After 3 years, The Outer Worlds finally received a new patch

The Outer Worlds gets its first update in years out of nowhere
Updates & Patches

It’s not every day you see a game come back to life after years of silence, but The Outer Worlds just did exactly that. Out of nowhere, the game has received its first real update in roughly three years, and the timing is interesting. It’s been about six months since The Outer Worlds 2 released, so this feels like a quiet move to clean things up and get players back into Halcyon.

Before anyone gets too excited, this isn’t a content drop. No new quests, no fresh storylines, no surprise DLC. Patch 2.5.7.0 is all about fixing what’s already there and making sure it actually runs the way it should.

A long-overdue cleanup pass

The biggest focus here is performance. One of the more annoying issues involved the Storm Cannon causing heavy FPS drops when used at close range. That’s now fixed, along with general performance improvements across several areas like Monarch, Emerald Vale, Roseway, and Eridanos. If you’ve played the Spacer’s Choice Edition, you probably know these spots didn’t always run smoothly, so this should make a noticeable difference.

UI fixes are also part of the package. Companion status effects now display correctly, font scaling issues have been addressed, and weapon scopes like the Super Scoper 3000 behave properly again. It’s the kind of stuff you don’t think about until it’s broken—and then it’s all you notice.

Quests got some attention too. A handful of missions had progression blockers or dialogue bugs that could derail a playthrough. Those have been cleaned up, along with smaller annoyances like broken interactions, stuck spots in the world, and visual glitches with armor and items.

It’s not flashy, but it’s the kind of update the game needed a long time ago. With more updates expected soon—including gameplay tweaks and additional improvements—this feels like the start of something rather than a one-off patch.
