Stellaris: Nomads makes space feel bigger, stranger, and more fun

Stellaris: Nomads is for players who want to rule the galaxy
Gameplay

Stellaris: Nomads is one of those DLCs that immediately sounds different from the usual “new ships, new traits, new toys” type of expansion. This time, the big hook is not just adding more stuff to your empire. It changes the way you think about having an empire in the first place.

Instead of starting with a homeworld, building borders, and slowly swallowing the map one system at a time, Nomads lets players run a civilization that lives on the move. Your people are not tied to planets. They survive inside massive Arkships, which basically become your mobile capital, home base, fortress, and symbol of power all in one. It is a very cool twist for Stellaris, because the game suddenly becomes less about sitting in one corner of space and more about drifting through the galaxy, making deals, causing problems, and adapting as you go.

The Arkship is the center of this new playstyle. Players can customize it toward different roles, including Military, Scientific, or Civilian paths. So, depending on your mood, your nomadic empire can feel like a wandering war machine, a giant space laboratory, or a floating society trying to survive without ever settling down. That kind of freedom fits Stellaris perfectly, especially for players who already love experimenting with weird builds.

Space roads, deals, and a new way to survive

Nomads also introduces Waystations and Wayline Networks, which let you create routes across space without fully claiming the territory around them. That is a big change, because it gives you a way to gather resources and interact with the galaxy without playing like a traditional empire. On top of that, the new Contract System lets nomadic civilizations take on tasks for other empires, earning resources, influence, favor, and better relations. Basically, you can become the galaxy’s most useful traveler, or its most suspicious one.

The DLC also brings four new Origins: Voidfarers, Heirs of the Khan, The Sacred Path, and Forever Cruise. Each one gives the nomad fantasy a different flavor, from spiritual journeys to chaotic luxury-cruise drama in space. There are also new civics, new traditions, Hero Ships, the Defender of the Galaxy Ambition, and the huge Stellar Cannon megastructure.

Alongside Nomads, Stellaris also gets the free 4.4 “Pegasus” update, with improvements like joining and leaving wars in progress, a cleaner situation log, better job systems, performance updates, and bug fixes.

For players who feel like their usual Stellaris runs have become a little too familiar, Nomads looks like a fun reason to jump back in. Before you start your new life among the stars, use our price comparison tool to find the best prices for Stellaris: Nomads DLC.

I have a feeling that this expansion is going to divide the community a lot, because not everyone will want to leave the classic style behind.

Overall, I think it's one of those ideas that sound strange at first, but then end up being one of the most memorable.

The idea of traveling around the galaxy in mobile arks sounds amazing, because it completely changes the way you play and think about the empire.

I think it's a very fresh expansion, because it breaks with the classic idea of conquering planets, and that's always appreciated in Stellaris.

The new concept of nomadic empires based on Arkships instead of colonizing planets is pretty cool.
