SPRAWL zero: A retro FPS with plenty of potential
Remember when first-person shooters didn't need a battle pass, three currencies, and a roadmap longer than the game's campaign? SPRAWL zero certainly seems to remember. This cyberpunk shooter is taking inspiration from the golden age of 2000s console FPS games, throwing players into a collapsing dystopian city where military oppression, cult madness, and fast-paced gunfights are all part of the daily commute.
Developed by Maeth, SPRAWL zero is quite an interesting follow-up to the cyberpunk FPS formula established by SPRAWL. Its premise is delightfully grim: a city is falling apart under military rule and cult influence, and somebody has to deal with the resulting mess. Naturally, that somebody is you, armed with enough firepower to make the local authorities regret their career choices.
A love letter to console classic FPS with a cyberpunk touch
SPRAWL zero doesn't go for the polished, tourist-friendly version of cyberpunk. Its set is a city in collapse, with military forces and cultists helping turn an already unpleasant place into a full-blown nightmare. It's the sort of environment where the neon lights probably flicker because even the electricity has given up. That darker atmosphere gives the game a strong identity. Cyberpunk shooters are hardly rare these days, but a world built around urban decay, authoritarian control, and cult-driven chaos has plenty of room for memorable locations and unsettling encounters.
In SPRAWL zero, you play as FIVE, a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier caught in a city collapsing under military rule and techno-religious fanaticism. Armed with over 40 weapons, cybernetic augments, and gravity-based abilities, you’ll need to outsmart coordinated enemy squads, survive deadly ambushes, and uncover the truth behind the chaos. You can catch incoming bullets with your Gravity Shield and send them back where they came from, bend shots through the air with Bullet-Time, or unleash Rushdown to tear through enemies with unstoppable force. With multiple paths, vertical environments, and handcrafted levels, SPRAWL zero rewards both aggressive play and tactical experimentation.
The game's biggest hook is its inspiration from 2000s console first-person shooters. This was an era when FPS games could be wonderfully strange, aggressively violent, and unapologetically focused on the fun of shooting things. SPRAWL zero delivers that same energy. Its fast-paced approach puts combat at the heart of the experience, making it a potentially appealing choice for players who enjoy direct action. The game gives players a memorable setting, satisfying gunfights, and enough enemies to make every corridor feel like a terrible place to be. The setting offers a distinctive visual identity, while the retro shooter approach gives it a clear gameplay direction.
The game doesn't reinvent the first-person shooter, and that's perfectly fine. Sometimes you just want a game that throws you into a dangerous city, hands you a gun, and politely suggests that everything in sight is probably hostile. SPRAWL zero is one to keep an eye on if you're hungry for a cyberpunk shooter with old-school attitude. Remember to use our comparator to get a SPRAWL zero Steam key at the best price.
