Early Access for Slay the Spire 2 Now Coming March 2026
The long-awaited sequel to Slay the Spire will be arriving later than expected. Developer MegaCrit announced this week that the Early Access launch of Slay the Spire 2, originally planned for late 2025, has been moved to March 2026. In a brief update shared with fans on Reddit, the studio explained that after “a lot of internal discussion,” it decided more time was needed before opening the doors to players.
Meeting the expectations
The team did not provide a detailed breakdown of the reasons behind the delay, but the message suggested that the decision was primarily about quality. MegaCrit wants to make sure that when Early Access begins, the game is stable and representative of their vision, rather than rushing to meet the original timeline. The update teasingly described the new launch window as "a secret Thursday in March,” leaving the exact date still under wraps.
While delays are always disappointing news for players, the Slay the Spire community has shown a mix of frustration and understanding. Some fans had been eagerly counting down to 2025, while others welcomed the delay, arguing that a polished experience is worth the wait. The subreddit has already filled with memes and light-hearted responses, from jokes about "drawing badly until STS2 comes out" to reminders that MegaCrit’s careful approach helped make the first game such a standout success.
The shift in schedule also highlights the challenges of indie development. MegaCrit has been building the sequel in the Godot engine after moving away from Unity, a transition that may have added complexity to production. With the new timeline, the studio now has several extra months to refine gameplay balance, remove errors, and ensure that Early Access launches in a strong state.
Though players will have to wait until 2026 to begin their runs up the new spire, the delay could ultimately work in the game’s favor. For many fans, the thought of a richer, more complete experience makes the wait easier to bear, and anticipation for March 2026 is already running high.
