AMD FSR 4.1 officially arrives on Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards

Radeon RX 7000 users can now access FSR 4.1 with latest Adrenalin driver

AMD has released a new Radeon driver update, bringing support for upcoming games while also expanding availability of its latest FSR 4.1 upscaling technology to an entire generation of graphics cards.

The new AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 driver marks an important milestone in AMD’s plan to bring FSR 4.1 to older hardware. Support for Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs has arrived ahead of schedule, with AMD previously targeting a July rollout. Support for even older RX 6000 series graphics cards remains on track for 2027.

AMD has confirmed that FSR 4.1 on RDNA 3 hardware delivers the same image quality as it does on newer RDNA 4 GPUs. However, there is one notable limitation: only the upscaling component of FSR 4.1 has been backported. Frame generation remains exclusive to RDNA 4 graphics cards, meaning RX 7000 owners gain improved image reconstruction but not the full feature set available on Radeon’s latest hardware.

Beyond FSR support, Adrenalin 26.6.2 also adds game-ready optimizations for two major upcoming releases. The driver is recommended for players planning to jump into Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced remake, as well as id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages - Revelations expansion.

The push to bring FSR 4 to older Radeon GPUs has been building for months. Interest intensified after AMD accidentally published source code containing two separate versions of FSR 4: a standard implementation designed for RDNA 4 hardware with FP8 support, and an alternative build utilizing INT8 instructions. The latter quickly attracted attention because it demonstrated that FSR 4 could function on GPUs outside AMD’s latest architecture.

Before AMD removed the code, modders were able to access the INT8 version and integrate it into tools such as Optiscaler. This allowed users to replace FSR 3 with FSR 4 in supported games, effectively unlocking improved image quality on older Radeon hardware. AMD’s official rollout now brings similar functionality to RDNA 3 users through its driver package.

The AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 driver is available now through the AMD Software application. Users interested in the complete list of fixes, improvements, and supported titles can also check AMD’s official release notes.
