Pokémon Scarlet and Violet achieve record sales

It seems that even a bug infestation isn't enough to drive away fans or diminish the influence Pokémon has in the industry. It's no wonder that Game Freak, despite its woes, still holds the ability to develop the franchise's flagship games, as new records are broken with each release. Nintendo itself announced that Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games for the Nintendo Switch console sold, together, 10 million units in the first three days since their global debut on November 18.

Initially, the two monster-capture games had already broken another record in Japan, selling 4 million units at release, stealing the feat from the former record holder, Splatoon 3. You can check the Game Data Library for these outstanding numbers.

Sales of the new Pokémons have reached the highest level for a game debut in Nintendo's history. Pokémon Sword and Shield also reached staggering sales figures, selling 16 million copies in only two months back in their release days. This shows that the franchise keeps growing, even if it doesn't exactly carry groundbreaking features and is crawling toward innovation.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games took advantage of the success of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and its debut in an, technically, open-world setting and repeated the strategy. This time, however, they added online multiplayer with friends who also own the games, making the experience more dynamic. To encourage this open-world freedom, players can choose three paths to follow. Victory Road, taking on the notorious Elite Four; Path of Legends, challenging Titan Pokémons in search of Herba Mystica; or Starfall Street to police the Team Star mobsters.
