NBA 2K27 Gameplay Reveal Shows Off Its Biggest New Tricks

NBA 2K27 is getting ready to replace NBA 2K26, and 2K Games has finally given us a proper look at what this year's installment in the most popular basketball video game series woll offer to the fans. A new gameplay video reveals a sizeable collection of tweaks and additions across several modes, including MyCAREER, MyTEAM and MyNBA. In short, there are plenty of reasons for virtual basketball addicts to start clearing their schedules.

So, what's new in NBA 2K27?

One of the biggest additions is the Dynamic Dunk Meter, which changes its timing window depending on the defensive situation. An open lane should give players more room for error, while trying to dunk through a defender will make things considerably more difficult. That should make throwing down a monster dunk feel less predictable. A completely open lane could give you a generous opportunity to finish the job, while attempting to posterize a defender who has correctly positioned himself could make things considerably trickier. Basically, NBA 2K27 wants players to think before launching their superstar toward the rim like a human cannonball. The game is also improving defensive AI, with smarter positioning and more effective contests.

MyCAREER is getting its own collection of changes, with the MyPLAYER Builder becoming more flexible. NBA 2K27 increases the total number of badges from 40 to 53, including 19 new badges. That should give players more room to experiment with builds and create players that don't all feel like they were assembled using the same internet-approved recipe.

The City is also welcoming one of basketball's most iconic playgrounds. Rucker Park is being added to NBA 2K27 and will feature prominently in the MyCAREER experience, including the new prelude titled Fire & Concrete. Details about the story are still relatively thin, but the name certainly sounds like the sort of place where someone is going to get their ankles broken before the tutorial is over.

Over in MyTEAM, the Auction House is going global — well, at least across platforms. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 players will share a unified marketplace, while auction wins will be delivered directly to collections without the usual verification wait.

Finally, MyNBA is getting more serious about the business of basketball. The mode will support the NBA's second apron rules and allow teams to offer No-Trade Clauses to free agents, adding another layer of strategy to franchise management.

NBA 2K27 launches on September 4, 2026, with Early Access beginning August 28 for Deluxe and Ultra Edition owners.
